Job Summary:

Trains and works under the supervision of Machining Supervisor on machine shop processes.

Job Role:

  • Machine Shop Technician 1 Principal Accountabilities
  • Assist with bond/glue up of materials using multiple FWC SOPs
  • Operate Forklift
  • Load and unload machine with tooling
  • Load and machine parts to the requirement
  • Machine setup (based on ability, can train)
  • Familiar with GD&T and measuring devices
  • Read and understand prints/drawings
  • Use CNC equipment to touch tools off
  • Set up materials and offsets to operate CNC equipment
  • Perform various maintenance and Preventative Machine Maintenance
  • Clean/organize stock materials (tools, tooling, etc.)
  • Feed inventory levels to Administrator
  • Keep machines clean, maintain coolant levels, know how to use a refractometer
  • Maintain cleanliness of machines (e.g. maintain coolant levels, how to use a refractometer), equipment, and work environment/shop (e.g. sweeping, mopping, dusting, etc.)
  • Must adhere to health and safety procedures, and all workplace policies
  • Update job knowledge by voluntarily participating in educational opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Qualities:

  • A keen eye for detail and results-driven approach
  • Working knowledge of CNC Machining
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and mechanical devices
  • Basic knowledge of machining processes
  • Ability to learn to use precision measuring devices, micrometers, calipers, height stands
  • Ability to quickly learn how to make adjustments to tool offsets to correct feature discrepancies
  • A basic understanding of cutting tools with some experience to judge if they need to be changed
  • Must be able to follow written instructions from Work Instruction Sheets
  • Ability to learn blueprint/drawing reading
  • Needs to have a strong appreciation of the importance of completing tasks on time

What You Will Bring to the Team:

  • High School/GED diploma or vocational school equivalent required
  • Trade Certification a plus
  • Have excellent math and mechanical skills/aptitude
  • The ability and desire to do precision work
  • Good communication skills
  • Good computer skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Experienced Certified Forklift Operator
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Combination of indoor and outdoor activities with varying conditions
  • Requires walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, bending, reaching, handling, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • May involve operating material handling equipment in a safe manner
  • Work may include exposure to variable noise levels, fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc., requiring personal protective equipment
  • Some positions may require working with small parts/components, necessitating excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
