Responsibilities:
The driver in training (DIT) will work with a mentor and trainer in the transportation department and will be instructed on the role and responsibility of a transport driver. The goal of the DIT program is to train new employees to successfully complete the NCDOT CDL test and become a full-time transport driver for Team Penske. Training will consist of in shop, classroom and on the road instruction. During the training period, the DIT will be taught how to perform the job duties of a transport driver. Those duties include but are not limited to:
- Load and unload cargo.
- Secure cargo.
- Stock and organize the trailer for race weekends.
- Pre-trip checklist.
- Logbook and other record keeping.
- Transporter operation and maintenance.
- Other duties both in shop and at track as directed.
The training period will be comprised of three levels of training; each level will require an evaluation of the DIT before he/she is allowed to move on to the next level. Once the DIT has successfully completed all levels of training, he/she will be eligible for consideration for any open position in the transportation department.
- Entry level transportation duties and successful completion of the NCDOT CDL permit test.
- Classroom instruction on the NCDOT CDL Manual and successful completion of the NCDOT CDL road test.
- In-house, on the road, supervised training.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to pass NC DOT Medical card requirements.
- Clear DMV record.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must present a professional demeanor at all times.
- Must be able to work in a team setting.
- Must be able to take instruction.
