Systems Engineer

MotorSport Vision needs an experienced Race Car Systems Engineer to work across its broad spectrum of existing and new motorsport and automotive projects.

Based at Bedford Autodrome, the home of PalmerSport - the leading operator of world-leading corporate motorsport events and the UK’s top single seater race championships, GB3 & GB4 – the role will involve specifying, sourcing, applying, and maintaining all major electronic, electro-mechanical and electrical equipment for GB3 & 4 championships plus our performance engineered Palmersport and MSV fleets.

This extremely varied and challenging position requires an individual with sound knowledge and a depth of experience in motorsport electronic and electrical components ideally within the race/high-performance automotive sector, who has the enthusiasm, drive, and passion to work within the motorsport industry.

Duties will include:

  • Joining the early stages of developments / projects for vehicle and circuit-based systems with a view to ensuring that electronic, electrical and comms functionalities are addressed, and then to plan for their timely execution within budgets
  • Being responsible for the development, planning & integration of electronic and electrical components within our race & performance vehicles
  • Attending all GB3 & GB4 race events in a pit lane support technical and troubleshooting role across car and engine electrical systems, electronic systems, and components
  • Setting up and maintaining an inventory of all major electronic and electrical equipment on vehicles (ECU’s, Dash Displays, Power Control systems, gear shift systems, ABS etc), leading to both development and appropriate updates, development, service, and maintenance
  • Assembling electronic and electrical components on high performance & race vehicles as well as any trackside equipment with which it interfaces
  • Implementing and managing routine reliability and test procedures for both our GB3 & GB4 and PalmerSport performance vehicles
  • Liaising with sub-contractors and suppliers from the beginning of projects to ensure that the company’s best interests are met, and supply is timely

You will have / be:

  • Degree educated in a related subject (Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical or Vehicle Systems Engineering)
  • Extensive previous experience working on either racing or high-performance vehicles and be familiar with hardware and associated software manufacturers such as:
    • Cosworth Electronics
    • MoTeC
    • AIM Technologies
    • Magneti Marelli
  • Have experience of interrogating, operating, and acquiring data from devices such as ECUs, power control modules, steering wheel & dash displays, gear shift systems, ABS, traction control, DRS and other motorsport systems
  • Be familiar with the specification and maintenance of motorsport sensors and wiring harnesses
  • A full UK driving licence (essential)
  • A willingness to work within a race team work pattern (evenings, weekends & travel as needed)
  • Particular and have excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to represent the company in a positive manner and within a team environment

This Systems Engineer role will require regular weekend work, travelling to various race weekends with the GB3 & GB4 Championships. This will include two European rounds of the Championship to Spa Francorchamps and Hungaroring, therefore ability to travel in and out of the UK without restrictions is essential.
