We’re looking for a Performance Simulation Engineer with expertise in Realtime 1D simulation experience to develop performance ideas and optimise them  to gain us valuable performance on track.

Key accountabilities:

  • To develop and improve correlation on our xRT models
  • To evaluate and identify performance opportunities in a laptime simulation environment
  • To support the definition of optimum design, development and setup targets for maximising PU performance 
  • To maintain simulation run records in line with Simulation Group requirements
  • To prepare, run, post process and communicate simulation results and prepare technical summary reports with clear recommended performance direction with supporting evidence. 
  • To improve correlation of simulated results to measured test data
  • To ensure all simulation output produced for the engineering function is consistent and coherent 
  • To contribute towards the development and improvement of simulation tools and analysis methodology contributing towards car and PU performance
  • To maintain regular communication with relevant stakeholders on the current simulation activity
  • To develop in-house post processing tools with the in-house tools groups
  • Develop new methods, ideas and techniques in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of thermodynamic modelling, with the support of the Thermodynamic Simulation Team Leader
  • Develop and asses new performance ideas under the guidance of the Thermodynamic Simulation Team Leader
  • To ensure that developments are in directions that are aligned to and support/enable future predicted engine requirements. 

 

Essential competencies:

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience in F1 hybrid power unit simulation is advantageous but high-performance racing engine experience or involvement in high-performance R&D projects is a pre-requisite.
  • MATLAB, Simulink and Python experience would be beneficial
  • Motion Applied’s toolset experience (ATLAS, System Monitor, vTAG) experience would be beneficial along with GT Suite tools
  • Interpreting simulation data, summarising and reporting findings
  • A thorough understanding of performance thermodynamics and its contribution to on track performance.
  • Practical knowledge of engine testing methodologies is advantageous
