Mechanic

The Mechanic is a full-time team member in the Operations Department who continuously ensures BMS/BD and its equipment is in top condition. This position will assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of gas and diesel equipment across Speedway campus. The mechanic will be tasked with making mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on equipment such as light and heavy trucks, excavators, loaders, skid steers, small engines, and more.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL PREFERENCES:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • 3 years minimum experience with heavy truck or diesel/heavy equipment repair
  • Manual dexterity
  • DOT experience (preferred, employee re-payment program to those who wish to attain certification)
  • Class A License (preferred, employee re-payment program to those who wish to attain)
  • Welding experience (preferred, not required)
  • Consistent can-do, positive, and team-oriented attitude
  • Able to operate forklift
  • Ability to operate handheld power tools
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
  • Able to climb on ladders and scaffolding as needed
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and variable schedules

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

NON-EVENT TIME:

  • Perform annual inspections, preventative maintenance and complete service paperwork on all equipment
  • Continuous inspection of the equipment to ensure optimal performance and 100% event readiness
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues with gas and diesel engines
  • Determine parts & tools necessary for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Ensure proper storage of all tools and equipment to protect and prolong lifecycles
  • Work with leadership team in preparation for all events
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management to support the overall excellence of the organization

EVENT TIME:

Functions for major events include but are not limited to:

  • Participate in venue and track safety teams as needed
  • Assist other trades within the department as needed
  • Assist with nightly track painting to ensure premium viewing of sponsor logos
  • Assist in winter events ice rink and light show installation and removal

HOURS OF WORK

NON-EVENT TIME

  • Normal business hours are typically 8 hours a day, Monday – Friday. Some weekends and evenings will be required based on event needs.

EVENT TIME

  • Business hours during race time may increase up to 14 or more hours a day, Monday – Friday with weekend requirements. Supervisors must be present through the end of major events.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel to other Speedway Motorsports tracks will likely be necessary. It is not anticipated that this would exceed 10% of the time.
