CNC Engineer - Machinist - Milling

Abbey Precision Ltd (est. 1985) is a precision engineering company based on its own site in Bradwell Abbey, Milton Keynes, that specialises in high precision component manufacture primarily for the motorsport, automotive and military sectors. We are a profitable company that has grown year on year, employing 50 people across two shifts. We are a busy, forward thinking company investing heavily in automated plant and technology to maintain our position as a key supplier.

We are looking to recruit additional experienced engineers to work in our busy machine shop, ideally in our milling section, acting either as setter/operators, or as programmer/setter/operators. We have a vacancy for 2 skilled millers on our day or late shift (3:30-11:30pm).

Abbey Precision has six 5-axis mills, and fifteen 3 axis mills, as well as four Matsuura 5-axis 10 pallet loading machines. Our turning department is well equipped with three DMG Mori NTX machines as well as other traditional lathes. We have a J & S CNC grinder, and use FANUC on all of our machine controllers.

Details of our plant are on our website.

ROLE and DUTIES:
1. To set and operate machines under the guidance of our supervisor. The business has well defined procedures for our engineers to prepare jobs for manufacture. Employees are expected to be able to retrieve programs and locate fixtures, and set the machine, producing the first part for inspection, and then running a job through to completion.

2. Maintaining accurate records of the jobs undertaken.

3. For programmers, to program and prove out new jobs.

There may be the opportunity to progress within the company. Some training can be provided although this is not a trainee position.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant recent experience in a similar role, in an engineering environment.
  • The ability to use bench checking tools, such as height gauges, verniers and micrometers.
  • Knowledge of milling, the types of tooling used and setting procedures.
  • Good eye for detail, and an accurate and careful worker.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, including geometric tolerances.
  • (preferred) Time served, having completed a recognised apprenticeship or similar.
  • (for programmers) The use of a known CAM package, such as Mastercam, Hypermill, OneCNC, etc.
  • Willing to work additional hours when required to “get the job done”.
