We have an opportunity to join the CFD group as a methodology engineer. This role would suit a candidate with a strong academic background in CFD, with practical experience of using and developing CFD methodologies, ideally in an industrial setting. You will have an aptitude for code development and will ideally have had exposure to OpenFOAM development. In this role you will work closely with the methodology engineers and in collaboration with other areas of the CFD group, to develop and improve our CFD capability. You will be exposed to a wide range of topics where you will be expected to contribute as part of a learning and development path to broaden your skills.
As a CFD Methodology Engineer, you will:

Develop and contribute methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our CFD tools and workflows.

Work with aerodynamicists and CFD engineers to solve problems and develop processes.

Ensure that CFD simulations and analysis carried out within the department are aligned with the capability of the tools.

Optimisation, maintenance, and support of new and existing toolkits.

Working and contributing across multiple disciplines of the CFD group; including process, external flows, internal flows, thermal modelling, and pipeline development.

Delivery of robust, observable, testable & performant processes.

Work with our software engineers to translate engineering codes into robust applications.

Contribute to the day-to-day activities of the CFD group.

Provide at elbow-support to users of the CFD process.
Our ideal CFD Methodology Engineer will have:

Practical CFD experience with excellent grasp of CFD fundamentals.

A Master’s in CFD or Aerodynamics subject

Exposure to OpenFOAM development and/or in C++ software development in a CFD environment.

Experience in implementing and testing CFD models within short time scales.

Excellent team player and able to work effectively with other groups.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication.

Comfortable in a user-facing role.
Applicants are preferred to have the following skills and experience:

F1 experience or relative experience within an industrial setting would be advantageous.

Experience of Python, and Unix shell scripting would be advantageous.

Experience in collaborative software development including source control, collaborative design, and code reviews.
