About the role:

Are you passionate about precision engineering and eager to learn the art of machining? We’re seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Machine Shop Apprentice. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience operating CNC machines, mastering tooling techniques, and contributing to high-quality manufacturing processes.

Reporting to the Machine Shop Manager, you will work within the fast-paced environment of our Machine Shop department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly skilled team of Machinists, CAM Programmers and Production Engineers, and over the course of the full Apprenticeship, will learn how to manufacture precision machined components for our Formula 1 car and customer programmes. This Apprenticeship will take part at our Formula 1 HQ in Brackley, alongside additional learning at a Technical College.

Key Skills to be developed during the Apprenticeship include:

  • The use of manual and CNC machine tools for the manufacture of precision machined components.

  • Understanding and interpreting technical drawings and developing understanding of specifications and geometrical tolerances.

  • Ability to use a wide range of measuring equipment and inspection techniques.

  • Understanding manufacturing processes and sequences.

  • Develop professional, positive relationships with all team members, with a focus on working collaboratively with all areas of the Machine Shop.

  • Safe working within general Safety, Health and Environmental guidelines with specific attention and working to Departmental Risk Assessments.

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong interest in engineering with an enquiring mind.

  • Computer literate.

  • Dependable, enthusiastic and willing to learn.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Reliable and flexible and punctual.   

  • A strong, positive work ethic with a ‘can do, team focused’ approach.

  • The successful candidate will be self-motivated and be comfortable operating within a team environment.

Qualifications Required:

  • Candidate must be eligible to complete a level 3 apprenticeship within a 42 month time frame.

  • It would be advantageous but not required if one year of a Machining/Engineering College course has been completed and further advantageous to have work experience within a similar environment.

  • Minimum 5 GCSE’s at grade 5 or above (these must include English, Maths and Science)
