High Voltage Technician - WEC

General Notes: 

  • Porsche Penske Motorsport is looking for a qualified 12V and HV Technician to join our team.
  • This role will be a vital member of our shop based and travelling racing organization as we race two Porsche 963 prototype sportscars in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) including the 24hrs of Le Mans with our manufacturer partner Porsche.
  • This position will include extensive travel both domestic and internationally throughout the year.
    • Time periods of 2-3 weeks away from the home base is expected.
  • Position is available at our facility in Mannheim, Germany.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Service, maintenance and handling of the hybrid and battery systems of our LMDh Prototype including complete car build shop and track side.
  • Executing and respecting HV system protocols and responsible for the safe installation and maintenance of the hybrid powertrain system.
  • Designing, building, repairing and maintaining motorsport looms and harnesses.
  • Aide in car radio setup and communication systems.
    • Work in conjunction with radio suppliers at test and race events.
    • Working with System Engineers to have stable and reliable communication in and to the car.        
  • Member of our performance pit stop crew for tire -, driver change or refueling.

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Required 2-3 years of experience in top level professional motorsport in an electrical technician role.
    • F1, IndyCar, IMSA, WEC, Formula E preferred.
    • At track position experience preferred.
  • Hybrid powertrain experience required.
    • Motorsport hybrid powertrain experience preferred.
    • Applicable certifications for handling of High Voltage Hybrid Systems.
      • DGUV – E3 Certification or equivalent preferred.
    • Training available if not certified to this level.
  • Required experience designing, building, repairing and maintaining motorsports looms and harnesses.
  • Ability to travel internationally required.
  • Preferred experience with Radio / Intercom and IT systems, programming, and maintenance.
  • Preferred experience in performance pit stops.

General obligations

  • Ensure that all required items of equipment, spare parts and car options are loaded on the transporters or containers.
  • Traveling with the team to races and tests to ensure the racecar is properly functioning in preparation for successful on-track performance.
  • Openly communicating with team members during all events regarding pit lane parts changes and daily schedule targets.
  • Maintain a professional and clean appearance of race cars and equipment at the shop and the track. Keeping the work area clean and always organized. While also ensuring others are doing the same.
  • Professionally represent the team and its sponsors on and off-track premises and make sure others are doing the same. Treating partners and their guests with respect by acknowledging them and appropriately answering their questions during shop, garage, and pit tours.
  • Ensure the company policy regarding purchasing guidelines is followed.
  • Help develop ideas that will increase logistic performance, cost and crew efficiency.
  • Providing direction and acting as a mentor to less experienced team members to ensure quality control while promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Safely operating equipment according to recommended safety specifications, including use of all protective equipment necessary.
  • Identifying any safety hazards and reporting all risks immediately to a supervisor.
  • Safekeeping and proper use of all company property issued during employment, including uniforms, tools, toolboxes, electronic devices, credit cards and any other productivity tools.
  • Participating in the workout program designed to maximize physical strength and endurance to remain competitive at a professional level.
  • Aiding other team members on other duties as appropriate.
