An opportunity has arisen for a Race Engineer to join the Jaguar TCS Racing department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment.

About the role

 

The purpose of the role is to maximise performance at Race & Test events & build on the team’s performance capabilities.

 

What you will do

 

  • Be responsible for one of the teams’ cars at race events, communicating effectively with the driver, engineers, and mechanics. This will involve (but not be limited to) controlling the vehicle setup, executing the run plan, communicating changes and directly interfacing with the driver.
  • Coordinate track test and simulator sessions to maximise learning.
  • Work effectively with Performance, Controls, Systems, Tyre, Strategy and other trackside & factory-based engineers to optimise & develop the car.
  • Maintain up to date records of car setup & driver feedback.
  • Ensure the legality of the car at race events, with correctly filled in paperwork.
  • Use Simulation tools pre & during an event to find opportunities for performance gain. 
  • Perform comprehensive post-event data & performance analysis with written reports.
  • Contribute to regular performance review meetings & give direction to supporting engineers on performance areas to focus on. 
  • Create analysis tools and techniques to understand and develop car performance.
  • Develop, document and apply best practices for safe, legal, reliable & performant car operation.
  • Lead a team of mechanics at events, promoting efficient teamwork & communication.
  • Organise & attend relevant rig tests providing engineering support.
  • Ensure any faults are reported and escalated to the relevant department.
  • Assist in the specification of longer term future car requirements.
  • Help with the garage build and pack-down.

 

About you

 

  • Previous race engineering experience in FE/F1/WEC.
  • Strong degree (or equivalent) in mechanical, automotive or related engineering discipline, Masters level preferred.
  • Proficient with data analysis – Previous experience of ATLAS an advantage
  • Familiarity with programming and analysis software e.g. Matlab
  • Excellent knowledge of Tyres, Vehicle Dynamics & Aerodynamics. Experience with performance control systems an advantage.

  • Self-motivated problem solver with a “Can do” attitude and high levels of initiative.
  • Calm & confident communicator with the ability to communicate information clearly, sometimes within a high-pressure / time-sensitive environment.
  • Flexible & comfortable with significant travel. Events will require working long hours over weekends.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to motivate & maximise each individual within a team environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Highest levels of professionalism and integrity
