The Opportunity:

A fabulous opportunity for an experienced, Race Engineer to join the small yet growing, dedicated and talented team at Lola as we embark on the next phase of the adventure. Working as part of the Trackside Engineering Team and reporting to the Project Technical Lead, the Race Engineer will collaborate closely with the Driver and Support Engineers to optimise performance across events. A key contributor to the overall innovation, development, and implementation process for car and driver performance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for the car at events.
  • Responsible for (but not limited to) creating and executing run plans, definition of setup and modifications during running, communicating with the driver, support engineers and mechanics.
  • Manage track and simulation sessions to maximise performance and learnings.
  • Work effectively with Performance, Controls, Systems, Tyre, Strategy, and other trackside & factory-based engineers to optimise, maximise performance & develop the car.
  • Maintain all event data and documentation updated.
  • Carry-out simulation work pre-, during and post-event to maximise performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Compile detailed post-event reports.
  • Create, document, and implement optimal practices ensuring safe, legal, dependable, and high-performing car operation.
  • Direct a team of mechanics during events, fostering efficient teamwork and communication.
  • Attend and support rig testing.
  • Support the long-term car development and specification.
  • Attend regular Performance Review and Project Review meetings to track progress and ensure alignment across technical areas.
  • Contribute to the Project Faults reporting and rectification process.
  • Contribute to Project Technical Operating documentation.

Technical Skills required:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a trackside role within top-tier motorsport such as F1, FE, or LMP, showcasing a proven track record in race engineering.
  • Demonstrates profound understanding of vehicle dynamics, tyres, and aerodynamics.
  • Experience in data analysis using Atlas, an advantage.
  • Knowledge of programming and analysis languages e.g. Matlab, Python, etc.
  • Experience in utilising simulation and Driver-in-the-Loop (DiL) simulator applications for vehicle development within motorsports.
  • Vehicle simulation experience using Canopy, AVL VSM & Simulink an advantage.

Qualifications & Experience required:

  • Degree Level or commensurate work experience
  • Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical engineering degree desirable
  • Project Management experience desirable
  • An interest in and understanding of engineering/motorsport.

The Successful Candidate might be:

  • An existing Race Engineer in a motorsport/ automotive company
  • A Race Engineer who has acquired the appropriate experience, skills & knowledge.
  • An experienced engineer with the relevant skills and knowledge

Role Location & Hours:

  • The role will be based at the Silverstone, Lola Facility with the requirement to travel as required. The successful applicant for the role will need to be adaptable and flexible to working hours including both evenings and weekends; taking into account the requirement to attend events. A normal working week is 40 hrs, 8 hrs a day.
