Led by racing legend Michael Andretti, the team fields multiple entries in INDYCAR, INDY NXT, IMSA and Formula E. The global racing enterprise boasts over 250 race wins, four INDYCAR Series championships, five INDY NXT titles, one Indy Pro 2000 and one USF2000 championship, and has captured victory five times at the famed Indianapolis 500-Mile Race. The team is now looking to expand into the pinnacle of motorsport through our Andretti Cadillac Team. 

Job description:
We have an opportunity for a Lead Engineer - Aero Test Team to join the Andretti Cadillac Team at the new Silverstone Facility. In this role you will lead a group of aerodynamics engineers responsible for preparing, supervising, and executing aerodynamic wind tunnel test programmes, to support the design and development of the aerodynamic performance of the team’s race cars.. Principal Accountabilities:

  • Management and responsibility of all wind tunnel experimental testing activities.
  • Organisation of all preparation documentation, including run lists, model specifications, test instrumentation equipment.
  • Management of day-to-day running of the wind tunnel program.
  • Data analysis and reporting of wind tunnel test results.
  • Propose, investigate and, where applicable, implement new methods and processes to improve testing efficiency.
  • Build an understanding of the aerodynamic structures and behaviors around the race car.
  • Contribute to collaborative discussions and efforts to improve whole-car performance, offering ideas and taking on board feedback from others.
  • Propose, implement, and support R&D wind tunnel experimental developments.
  • Propose, implement, and support software and tool development to improve wind tunnel testing techniques, analysis and efficiency.
  • Communicate key findings to the Aerodynamics department stakeholder.
  • You will be required to travel as part of this role on a regular basis.

Requirements

  • Multiple years’ relevant experience in a similar role within the motorsport industry.
  • Extensive experience of wind tunnel experimental testing and data analysis.
  • Extensive experience of R&D experimental testing techniques and methodologies, including classic methods (load cells, surface pressure taps, pressure rakes) to advanced techniques (PIV, PTV).
  • Strong understanding of the Formula One® Technical Regulations.
  • Experience in leading, managing and directly contributing to aerodynamic development test programmes.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and managing aerodynamic development projects against pre-agreed targets.
  • Well versed with CFD and 3D CAD software (preferably 3DExperience/CATIA).
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Able to perform duties in a timely manner with minimal errors.
  • Ability to line manage / lead teams effectively.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders/directors.
  • Clear and concise communication.
  • Strong levels of IT skills including MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Positively contribute to an open and inclusive culture.
