Your mission
- Initial analysis and appraisal of test parts and damaged parts
- Performing microscopic examinations
- Coordinating with Design, test operators, workshops, and laboratories with regard to the design, supply quality, test operation and load, setup, and laboratory analyses
- Deriving and performing further tests and functional measurements to clarify the cause of the failure
- Analyzing the cause of the failure and confirming the measure
- Documenting and reporting on the development status
- Assisting with the creation of an engine model for predicting the service life depending on the life cycle and load
Your profile
- Technical degree in mechanical engineering or automotive engineering (bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, graduate diploma (“Diplom”), or engineering doctorate (“Dr.-Ing.”))
- Several years of experience in the area of engine failure analysis
- Several years of professional experience in the area of engine mechanics as well as testing of high-performance combustion engines
- Broad knowledge of engine technology with excellent expertise in the fields of engine testing, measurement technology, tribology and materials science
- Experience in operating engine and component test benches
- Excellent teamwork and organizational skills as well as a strong sense of responsibility
- Independent and structured working practices
- Ability to make decisions and handle conflicts
- Full professional proficiency in German or English and a willingness to learn a basic level in the corresponding other language are prerequisites
Our Team
In the internal combustion engine development division, you will work on the failure analysis of a high-performance drivetrain within mechanical development. Your task will be to analyze damage cases in the context of the respective engine system, identify connections, and prepare optimization measures to develop the maximum performance and efficiency of the engine while at the same time ensuring the required reliability. You will also be involved in creating an engine model for predicting the service life.
You will perform development measures in the concept and design phases as well as in the commissioning and testing phases. You will plan this work alongside Design and Simulation on a wide variety of engine, component, and powertrain test benches. You will independently conduct and analyze the experiments and then develop appropriate proposals for further development. With your efforts, you will support the overall development of the drive unit to achieve the required level of maturity in line with the schedule.
About us
Audi Formula Racing GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Audi Sport and was founded in 2022 for the brand’s Formula 1 entry. From 2026, the brand with the four rings will compete in the widely popular FIA Formula 1 World Championship with an internally developed power unit and its own factory team. In the future, the program will spearhead Audi’s factory commitment in motorsport.
The power unit is developed at Audi Sport’s state-of-the-art Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg an der Donau, close to AUDI AG’s corporate headquarters in Ingolstadt. The facility opened in 2014 and is considered as one of the most modern of its kind. It’s currently being expanded for the F1 program. For the first time since 2009, a Formula 1 power unit will be made in Germany.
The decision to enter Formula 1 was driven by new regulations announced by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). From 2026, sustainable synthetic fuels will be used while approximately 50% of the drivetrain’s power will be electric. Audi wants to actively support the transformation of what is by far the most important motorsport series.
Popular on a global stage, highly emotional and technologically advanced – Formula 1 is a spectacular platform for the world’s most sophisticated electrified racing cars. Audi wants to demonstrate “Vorsprung durch Technik” in this competitive environment and is putting together a highly specialized team to develop the power unit. Our basis is the extensive expertise gained from our successful motorsport involvement in Formula E, touring car racing, customer racing, the Dakar Rally and our Le Mans era.
