The Opportunity:

Lola Cars is offering an exciting opportunity for a Chief Mechanic to join our expanding, professional team based at Silverstone. The successful candidate will be skilled in maintaining high-performance and historic racing cars. As Chief Mechanic, you will play a key role in the preparation, maintenance, and overall performance of our mechanic team, both trackside and in the factory. During the build process, coordinating and supporting the assembly in a methodical manner whilst adhering to tight deadlines, quality standards and design requirements.

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work with the design and operations team to create good working practices, for assembly and maintenance of all tests, race and spare cars parts. 
  • Ensure that cars and sub-assemblies are consistently prepared to the highest standards, adhering to all set up parameters, and meeting the criteria stipulated in the build specification and associated quality standards.
  • Make sure the car is consistently operating at the maximum mechanical performance and reliability.
  • Overall responsibility for the workshop environment and equipment.
  • Schedule staffing as required and ensure all deadlines can be achieved within the mechanical build and preparation of cars and parts.
  • Support test and race activities as required.
  • Document any problems and issues as they occur and ensure fault fixes and improvements are reported to the relevant department. Ensure correct procedures are followed.
  • Maintain rapport with the FIA Technical Delegates. Ensure readiness for Pre-event Scrutineering, mandatory spot legality checks and Parc Ferme inspections.
  • Ensure workshop, car and garage presentation meets corporate branding guidelines and expectations.
  • Support the Operational Manager in setting up a stores system to support all business activities, including maintenance of consumables to ensure all business needs can be meet.
  • Work using the companies chosen lifing system and software, supporting the setup and maintenance of the system.
  • Follow, enforces, and promotes health & safety and the guidelines in all venues.
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced team members, to ensure quality control while promoting positive learning environment.

 

Experience required:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience as a mechanic in the motorsport sector preferably F1, LMP2, LMH, LMDh, FE.
  • Previous experience of setting up a new team and workshop environment.
  • Experience and ability to work under pressure meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality, and with minimal guidance.
  • Track record of strong problem solving, logical thinking with research and reporting skills are essential.
  • Past performance demonstrates good communication skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to learn and adapt quickly are prerequisite for the role.

Qualifications & Experience required:

  • Degree Level or commensurate work experience
  • Motorsport, engineering, electrical degree desirable but not essential
  • An interest in and understanding of engineering/motorsport.

 

The Successful Candidate might be:

  • An existing Chief Mechanic in a motorsport/ automotive company
  • An experienced mechanic enthusiast who has acquired the appropriate experience, skills & knowledge.

 

Role Location & Hours:

A full time (40hr week) role, based at Lola’s Silverstone Facility with the requirement for some travel and weekend work.
