Manufacturing Engineer

What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our fantastic Series Support team in Woking. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll leverage your process improvement expertise to evaluate and enhance production systems, aiming to cut costs and boost efficiency. Strong communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing operations are essential.

You’ll focus on refining manufacturing processes for car production, taking over new model processes from the Future Manufacturing Engineering teams and integrating them into ongoing Series production. Your responsibilities include ongoing process enhancements, leading quality investigations, and applying industrial engineering methods.

What You'll Do

  • Owning all aspects of PFMEA activities.
  • Leading series engineering change implementation through design reviews for new content.
  • Designing and delivering entire or partial production lines and processes
  • Defining and implementing line re-rate projects (Capacity increase / transformation)
  • Supporting with the definition of the process flow, build sequence, logistics strategies, equipment, and tooling specifications for specific (Paint / Body Assembly / General Assembly / Trim & Final) Process Areas
  • Developing strategies and business cases that justifies the benefit for automation based on quality, cost, ergo, and / or throughput requirements
  • Partnering with Operations teams to ensure a successful ramp and long-term production at our facilities
  • Developing equipment qualification requirements including correlation, process capability (CP/CPk) and Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility (GR&R)
  • Leading project activities from concept layout development, equipment design, specifications, RFQ, schedule, installation, commissioning, start-up, training & buyoff.
  • Developing Request for Quotation (RFQ) that defines the design, engineering, and timeline requirements.
  • Defining Equipment design requirements like UPD, Uptime, availability, MTTR, MTBF, ergo, and Safety.
  • Planning/coordinating installation of new Tooling, Equipment and Automation systems for new models in conjunction with process and product requirements.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) is advantageous or equivalent experience in a similar role.
  • Manufacturing support within a mid to low volume assembly environment
  • Hours per Car generation and monitoring
  • Vehicle assembly process instructions and visuals
  • Trim and Final processes
  • End of Line vehicle processing / finishing
  • Demonstrated ability to optimise existing processes for rate, yield, availability
  • Detailed knowledge of manufacturing and processing principles (cycle time analysis, quality control, equipment efficiency, equipment selection, return on investment, error proofing, ergonomics, material logistics)
  • Experience working in both 2D & 3D CAD environments
  • Experience in compliance with Health & Safety (e.g. DSEAR & COSHH) regulations
  • Knowledge of GD&T principles in developing detailed RFQ
  • Experience and understanding of Construction Design & Management (CDM) regulations and compliance
