We have an exciting opportunity for Mechanical Design Engineers within our F1 Power Unit Concept Team. The F1 PU Concept Team is responsible for directing new ideas and technology into the PU and car concepts, delivering performance and efficiency benefits for race 1, year on year.

  • Direct ideas and technology into the power unit and car concepts, delivering performance and efficiency benefits for race 1, year on year, whilst maintaining reliability requirements
  • Bang the power unit drum with Mercedes AMG F1 to leverage the maximum amount of power unit performance potential onto the car, whilst keeping all of HPP fully involved with concept evolution
  • Create robust and versatile models to demonstrate concepts, both in solids and surfaces
  • Build effective relationships with a variety of other departments

Therefore we need you to…

Be skilled at…

  • Engineering solutions from first principles, demonstrating the ability to undertake fundamental calculations to support the design concept
  • Creating solutions considering material selection, manufacturability, heat treatment & other process requirements, surface finish requirements, geometrical tolerancing & control over critical features, etc.
  • Reading and creating engineering drawings
  • Using CAD software (preferably CATIA)
  • Using mathematical and engineering first principles ability to guide instinct
  • Abaqus & CATIA FEA, Matlab / Simulink and Excel (proficient)
  • Designing and developing creative and innovative power unit concepts

Have experience of…

  • Designing highly loaded mechanical components & systems
  • Power unit design, integration and deployment within a race car
  • CATIA V5 complex solid and surface modelling.

Demonstrate knowledge of…

  • Mechanical engineering practices and systems
  • Internal combustion engines, their systems & energy recovery systems (breadth & depth)
  • Understanding, critiquing, challenging and developing car requirements to maximise power unit potential

Hold these qualifications…

  • BEng / BSc Qualified (2:1 minimum) in Mechanical Engineering or allied discipline
