P&T Test Engineer

We have an exciting opportunity for a P&T Test Engineer to join our Prototype and Test department here at Williams. In this role you will be working closely with the P&T Test Manager in the day to day running of the Prototype and Test department and assist the engineers with developing the department facilities and testing capabilities. We are looking for a P&T Test Engineer that will take lead and develop new and existing projects and department tasks and be involved in all forms of off-site testing.

As a P&T Test Engineer, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Research and justify new technologies/equipment to introduce in the department.

  • Contribute to the support engineering team, including Design, Electronics and Control systems.

  • To contribute to the R&D projects, liaising with engineering/stress to ensure hardware meets the testing requirement.

  • To maintain, operate and develop the department’s eight post rig, BCE, Rig A, HWR, fuel rigs & all future rigs.

  • Focus on improving the quality and efficiency of all department processes.

  • To ensure that data analysis and reports standards are high and signed off prior to release.

  • To assist with test scheduling and resource planning, including the RTR system.

  • To assist department test technicians & other personnel with technical support regarding all areas of the department.

  • To carry out all forms of testing on or off-site for which the department has responsibility or involvement, including build and maintenance of test rigs and associated equipment.

  • To carry out component and sub-assembly tests for strength, durability and performance using a range of hydraulic test equipment (hand pumps, single axis test machines, multi-axis bespoke rigs).

  • To ensure that predefined test procedures are generated, upheld and tests are performed in a safe manner.

  • To ensure that sensors and equipment are correctly maintained and calibrated prior to performing any tests.

  • To ensure calibration and maintenance schedules are updated.

  • To maintain test rigs where necessary and report any maintenance requirements that could result in injury to the user or other staff.

  • To co-operate with department colleagues by sharing knowledge gained in previous tests and projects, this should be done in a friendly and helpful manner.

  • To lead the servicing and maintaining of Sensors, Test equipment and Hydraulic equipment

  • To assist with the development of apprentices, placement, and work experience students during their time in the department, including liaison with HR

  • Assist in the day to day running of the department when either Head of P&T and P&T Test manager is absent.

We are looking for a P&T Test Engineer with the following skills:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification supported by experience in motorsport, or a related field.

  • Being technically knowledgeable about Formula One and the rules and regulations.

  • Be proficient with the following hardware & software:  - Instron, Servotest, Cats3, Matlab, HBM, Catman, Atlas, Mistras AE, GOM Aramis, NX, Team Centre, VBA & Williams NI

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders across different departments in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to make sound decisions and think logically even in high-pressure situations. 

  • A team player who is supportive of colleagues.

  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Highly self-motivated to achieve targets set both for this role and the department and committed to continuous improvement.
