PURPOSE: To coordinate and organize all aspects of the engineering team to optimize the on-track performance of the car at each event throughout the championship. This role will have a significant impact on the direction, culture, and the success of the IndyCar team.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work independently and within a team group to define and deliver performance for races, tests, and simulation events.
- Responsible for managing the trackside engineering group to prepare and compete at all events and tests in the IndyCar series.
- Work within the team to collectively develop the engineering capability and knowledge of the team.
- High-level management skills with a confidence inspiring communicative approach
- Ability to plan and schedule engineering tasks but also adapt during dynamically changing conditions and circumstances on and off the track.
- Defines objectives, identifies, and evaluates trends and options, chooses a course of action, and evaluates outcomes.
- Coaches, counsels, and assign work to the trackside engineering team.
- Develops, maintains, and enforces processes and procedures.
You must be a strong team player with excellent communication skills, diplomacy, and tenacity. The confidence and poise to make quick, data-driven decisions under extremely tight deadlines in a high-pressure environment is essential to this role.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Required:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree
- Proven track record in high-level motorsport competition
- Proved race engineering experience and results in IndyCar racing.
- Strong science, physics, and data-driven background
- In-depth knowledge of vehicle dynamics and control systems
- Organizational skills; keeping detailed notes and summarizing outcomes and next steps.
- Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing
- Data analysis software and simulation software skills
- Ability to think outside the box.
This position is best suited for an engaging, dynamic, high-energy individual. Travel is required for all IndyCar races as well as some track and other development tests.
