HV Battery Design and Development Engineer Formula 1

Your mission

Developing concepts, designing layouts and testing energy storage systems for the Audi Formula 1 power unit

 You will be responsible for:

 • Concepts for high-voltage batteries that were developed in the limit range in order to map the maximum possible output within the technical regulations of FIA F1
• Designing the electrical components of the battery junction box (housing, safety equipment, performance) including 3D design
• Production and assembly technologies; you will promote their implementation
• Developing and testing the ES components and the entire HV battery

Your profile

• A university degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a comparable course of study
• Multiple years of experience with designing HV batteries and their safety functions
• Design experience (Catia V5) in the area of high-voltage batteries, the battery junction box and power electronics
• Experience with parts development in the HV path
• Experience in the area of testing/analysis of HV components/systems
• Certification as a qualified electrician and for working with high voltage would be an asset
• Full professional proficiency in German or English and a willingness to attain a basic level in the other language are prerequisites
• Strong implementation skills and a high level of motivation and personal initiative
• Excellent team skills
• Targeted, independent and structured work practices

Our Team

In the field of high-voltage storage development, you will work on the key component of electric high-performance drive systems and play your part in ensuring we are able to succeed in a highly competitive environment. You will be involved in areas ranging from requirements management and methods development to the detailed design for HV battery concepts and HV electronics as well as battery cell definitions for high-performance motorsports applications, and you will accompany your development through assembly all the way to the tests on the in-house test facility.

About us

Audi Formula Racing GmbH is a wholly owned subsidiary of Audi Sport and was founded in 2022 for the brand’s Formula 1 entry. From 2026, the brand with the four rings will compete in the widely popular FIA Formula 1 World Championship with an internally developed power unit and its own factory team. In the future, the program will spearhead Audi’s factory commitment in motorsport.
The power unit is developed at Audi Sport’s state-of-the-art Competence Center Motorsport in Neuburg an der Donau, close to AUDI AG’s corporate headquarters in Ingolstadt. The facility opened in 2014 and is considered as one of the most modern of its kind. It’s currently being expanded for the F1 program. For the first time since 2009, a Formula 1 power unit will be made in Germany.

The decision to enter Formula 1 was driven by new regulations announced by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). From 2026, sustainable synthetic fuels will be used while approximately 50% of the drivetrain’s power will be electric. Audi wants to actively support the transformation of what is by far the most important motorsport series.
Popular on a global stage, highly emotional and technologically advanced – Formula 1 is a spectacular platform for the world’s most sophisticated electrified racing cars. Audi wants to demonstrate “Vorsprung durch Technik” in this competitive environment and is putting together a highly specialized team to develop the power unit. Our basis is the extensive expertise gained from our successful motorsport involvement in Formula E, touring car racing, customer racing, the Dakar Rally and our Le Mans era.
