Vehicle Development Lead Technician, Idiada.

What to Expect

We are recruiting for a Vehicle Development Lead Technician to join our fantastic Vehicle Development team in Idiada. As the Vehicle Development Lead Technician you will take a leading role within the group of Development Technicians in the assembly, maintenance, preparation and operational support of multi-project test and development vehicles and rigs at both Idiada and at test locations.

What You'll Do

  • Coordinating and highlighting as appropriate with Team Leaders, workshop consumables, tooling, Technician training and mentoring as well as the maintenance of Idiada workshop and support equipment for workshop on and off-site test activities.
  • Building, maintaining, updating, preparing and supporting the operation of concept/mule/prototype and production level vehicles and simulation rigs, during workshop and test and development activities.
  • Taking a lead role to assist with ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle workshop.
  • Maintenance of the workshop and equipment to the standards set by McLaren.
  • Interacting with design/engineering staff to establish and achieve requirements, specifications, and targets.
  • Maintaining workshop tooling & equipment to an operational level and within budget.
  • Ensuring multiple equipment kits to support off-site vehicle tests are stocked, inventoried, and organised ready to go on any test at any time.
  • All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
  • Being responsible for workshop procedures and relevant technical information are captured on the workshop procedure folders, ensuring they are maintained up to date all the time. Offering and getting help from Team Leaders to cross check information and presenting latest procedures to the team as required.
  • Unsocial hours and travel will be required as part of this role as well as regular off-site UK, European and occasional Worldwide testing duties.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive experience in motorsport/prototype/low volume/high performance complete vehicle builds, covering the manufacture, assembly and operating of such vehicles.
  • Basic welding, machining and fabrication skills are desirable.
  • Understanding of current automotive electrical systems and diagnostic tools would be advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Clean Driving Licence & Passport.
  • IT literate in various packages e.g. Microsoft Office.
