A vacancy has arisen for a technician to join our Test and Development (T&D) team. Reporting to the T&D Technical Team Leader, the primary responsibility for the successful candidate will be supporting the structural sign-off of components relating to the suspension, braking system, and safety structures of the car. The role will also cover Research and Development activities across material testing, instrumentation development, and proof of concept demonstrators for future cars. This is a role where you will provide a significant contribution to our on-track performance and reliability.

Key Accountabilities (Duties):

Reporting to the Test and Development Technical Team Leader, your duties will include:

  • Supporting the safety, reliability, and performance sign-off processes for structural assemblies – covering both “as new” components and in-service “turnaround” activities.

  • Responsibility for the correct installation of the Unit Under Test (UUT) into the test environment, including verifying the requested test parameters such as load, temperature and frequency.

  • Collaborate with the design, performance, and test engineering teams to identify the most efficient and effective methods of delivering the agreed objectives within a test programme.

  • Maintain clear and concise records of test outcomes, working with the test engineer(s) to ensure we accurately report our findings and store information for future retrieval.

  • Champion planned servicing and maintenance of our test equipment to ensure we maintain the highest practicable levels of operational efficiency across the season.

  • Participate in cross-training activities – educating others in your area(s) of specialism and being open to learning about other areas of the car. This includes the support of business needs in other areas of Research and Development, for example our Dyno Group.

  • Proactively support continuous improvement and data quality activities to improve our decision-making processes.

  • Demonstrate a positive Health and Safety culture in all our testing activities.

  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards at all times.

  • Support the enablement of our test facilities for commercial use.

Candidate Profile:

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a high-performance engineering environment.

  • Experience in delivering experimental results in support of a fast-paced programme with immovable deadlines.

  • Ability to collaborate and negotiate to deliver results across different departments.

  • Ability to read engineering drawings, build fixtures and verify setups for experiments.

  • A proven ability to take the initiative.

  • Curious, committed to continuous learning, and ability to adapt quickly to change.

Desirable:

  • Experience in testing mechanical and composite components and assemblies in a lab setting.

  • Experience of programming and control of servo-hydraulic actuators and fatigue test machines.

  • Analysis of live and logged data to draw conclusion of component and system health.

  • Trackside motorsport experience.

  • Ability to creatively present data in formats that make it accessible and understandable to a wide range of stakeholders and business areas.

Specific Advantageous Experiences:

  • Use of Instron software and hardware

  • Use of ATLAS 10 for analysing live and logged data.

  • Previous trackside F1 experience.

  • Coding in any of Python, MATLAB, VBA, DAX.

  • Experience with using Dassault 3DX for extracting information from CAD.

  • Electrical diagnostic ability such as 17th/18th Edition qualification.
