Purpose of the role:

The purpose of this role is to manage the planning and publishing of content across all McLaren Formula 1 Team’s social media channels, from live grands prix coverage to brand and partnership campaigns.

The postholder is accountable for driving performance on our channels including aggressive growth and high engagement.


Role dimension

you will report into the Head of Content and Distribution and have three direct reports who will support you to deliver on objectives. You will also be a part of McLaren Racing’s wider digital team, providing you with the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from the best professionals in their respective fields in Formula 1.

This role provides hybrid working but requires you to be at the McLaren Technology Centre (Woking, UK) at least three days per week (except for when traveling for grands prix) to capitilise on content capture opportunities and collaboration with colleagues.

McLaren operates in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, and the nature of racing on weekends and working in social media means regularly working during unsocial hours including worldwide travel to grands prix.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage the day-to-day output of content across all social media channels in line with McLaren’s content strategy.
  • Deliver social media plans at least a month in advance, while clearly communicating plans to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the social media team, constantly raising the standards of content creation and publishing.
  • Manage the execution of contractual partner and licensing posts across all channels.
  • Hands-on publishing and content creation.
  • Working closely with the Head of Content and Distribution to develop best-in-class content strategies.
  • Enforce team processes, guidelines and policies set by McLaren Racing.
  • Enforce McLaren’s tone of voice across all channels.
  • Collaborate with fellow managers to maximise McLaren Plus sign-ups, the McLaren App, and drive traffic to the McLaren website and the McLaren Store.

Job requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

  • Established social media and community management background including proven experience in managing the day-to-day activity of a sports team (either team or agency side).
  • Experience of managing and developing a small team.
  • Proven track record of driving follower growth and high engagement.
  • Excellent copywriting, proofreading and editing skills, demonstrating a clear understanding of social media tone of voice.
  • Demonstrable passion for fan engagement and an understanding of the role that social media plays in sport.
  • Experience of boosting and sponsoring content on Instagram and TikTok on ad platforms.
  • Ability to engage multiple internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority.

McLaren Racing is
based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking. Our state of

land. The MTC is connected to Woking mainline station via regular shuttle
buses, from which London Waterloo is a 30 minute train ride.
