Parts and Logistics Manager - WEC

General Notes: 

  • Porsche Penske Motorsport is looking for a qualified logistics and parts manager to join our team
  • This role will be a vital member of our shop based and travelling racing organization as we race two Porsche 963 prototype sportscars in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) including the 24hrs of Le Mans with our manufacturer partner Porsche.
  • This position will include extensive travel both domestic and internationally throughout the year. o Time periods of 2-3 weeks away from the home base is expected
  • Position is based in Mannheim, Germany and reports to the PPM WEC General Manager.
  • Position is open immediately.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Responsible for all international and domestic shipping logistics required by the team.
    • Lead the transportation group, liaise with the transport team leader, and ensure all processes of this group are followed.
    • Work / liaise directly with all freight forwarders and Porsche for all logistics.
    • This is inclusive of transport orders, customs requirement, VAT compliance, carnet generation,
       international shipping requirements and regulations, and temporary import requirements.
    • Volume planning for all oversea events going via air and/or sea freight.


  • Lead the parts stock, mileage tracking and facility personnel.
    • Ensure adequate resources for the race team to complete the work at all times.
    • Responsible for all ordering, invoicing and financial documentation of equipment, parts, supplies, fuel and tools as needed for the shop departments and mechanics.
    • Manage new / replacement parts ordering through Porsche software and processes.
    • Responsible for parts inventory management with Porsche Motorsport software
    • Manage inventory of consumables and supplies including hardware and raw materials


  • Responsible for the equipment
    • Plan equipment logistics and draw up the track setup for all events.
    • Order new and update existing equipment following the company’s purchasing process.
    • Ensure usage is tracked and maintenance process is followed for i.e., wheel guns, fuel couplings and compressors.
    • Lead the designing process of new equipment and flight cases.
    • Person of contact for all packing inquiries and repair requests
    • Member of our performance pit stop crew for tire -, driver change or refueling

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Required 3 years of experience in international shipping and logistics
  • Microsoft Office suite and computer knowledge required.
  • Ability to travel internationally and with the race team required
  • International Racing Team logistics experience preferred
  • Experience in Human Resources management preferred
  • Experience with SAP Inventory Management software preferred
  • German language skill preferred

 

General obligations

  • Ensure that all required items of equipment, spare parts and car options are loaded on the transporters or containers.
  • Traveling with the team to races and tests to ensure the racecar is properly functioning in preparation for successful on-track performance.
  • Openly communicating with team members during all events regarding pit lane parts changes and daily schedule targets.
  • Maintain a professional and clean appearance of race cars and equipment at the shop and the track. Keeping the work area clean and always organized. While also ensuring others are doing the same.
  • Professionally represent the team and its sponsors on and off-track premises and make sure others are doing the same. Treating partners and their guests with respect by acknowledging them and appropriately answering their questions during shop, garage, and pit tours.
  • Ensure the company policy regarding purchasing guidelines is followed.
  • Help develop ideas that will increase logistic performance, cost and crew efficiency.
  • Providing direction and acting as a mentor to less experienced team members to ensure quality control while promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Safely operating equipment according to recommended safety specifications, including use of all protective equipment necessary.
  • Identifying any safety hazards and reporting all risks immediately to a supervisor.
  • Safekeeping and proper use of all company property issued during employment, including uniforms, tools, toolboxes, electronic devices, credit cards and any other productivity tools.
  • Participating in the workout program designed to maximize physical strength and endurance to remain competitive at a professional level.
  • Aiding other team members on other duties as appropriate.
