RACE Software – Training Courses for Engineers

It is no coincidence that in the high-speed, ever-evolving world of motorsport and racing, the UK has always been in pole position.

A contributory and consequential factor is the sheer number of motorsport companies operating out of the UK, serving customers, teams, and related organisations globally. Boasting precision engineering and advanced technological skills, it’s no wonder that this expertise is being capitalised upon by mainstream automotive, defence, medical and other advanced engineering, and precision manufacturing industries.

When you’re a jobseeker in an extremely competitive market, every edge or advantage you can demonstrate to your prospective employer could open another door through the process. You always want to be pushing boundaries or perhaps even rethinking them. Every challenge starts with the question of how you can define it, how you can solve it, and how you can do better immediately after solving it.

And when you’re an employer in this challenging post-pandemic environment, with fierce competition for skilled, energetic people, you’d like to make sure your employees are on top their skills game while getting the right support for their career progression and continuous professional development.

About me

I am a mechanical engineer with a keen interest in vehicle design, chassis systems and innovative approaches to problem solving. I have 25 years’ experience in engineering with extensive experience in product development, engineering packaging and complete vehicle development from concept phase up to manufacturing.

I am the managing director of Enigma Incorporated Limited and we work in the Automotive, Rail, Telecommunications, Medical, Hospitality and Gaming industries. We have expertise in Consultancy, Business Development, Software, Strategy, Design and Branding.

Most recently we have been working with an automotive start-up, designing Packaging, Chassis & Body. And this project requires my team and myself to understand both high level and detailed concepts of suspensions and their Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and specifics about tuning suspensions from first principles.

I was looking across the breadth of the automotive and motorsport world to see who and what’s out there, both to learn and skill up myself and more importantly to engage my team and my wider organisation in something valuable, interesting, and exciting.

Enter Race Software

This is when I came across RACE Software. RACE Software is a cloud-based Multibody Simulation (MBS) software package used for the development of suspension systems.

In addition to providing the software package, RACE Software also offers two excellent training courses on Suspension Fundamentals and Suspension Performance Tuning.

In a suspension kinematics and compliance analysis, simplified vertical, roll, cornering, traction and braking loads are applied to the suspension system and the response of the system to each input type is recorded. The inputs allow the force-response interactions of the suspension system to be understood and ultimately tuned.

CHASSIS SYSTEMS FUNDAMENTALS TRAINING COURSE

The RACE Software team has designed this course specifically for professionals and students looking to learn about chassis and suspension systems and what it takes to concept, design, and engineer them. Getting to grips with the topics covered in this course sets up the user perfectly to understand fundamental concepts about automotive suspensions. The course teaches you the KPIs used in RACE Software and the automotive and motorsport industry. The principles learned in this course are key to designing any suspension and chassis system.

You will learn the fundamentals of suspension KPIs used in the automotive and motorsport industries to design and develop suspension systems. This course is for both professionals and students looking to learn the fundamentals of suspension KPIs used in the automotive and motorsport industries. The course takes the student through over thirty suspension KPIs. Each KPI is explained in simple terms. The student will learn how each KPI is calculated and how it impacts the suspension performance of a vehicle.

Suspension Performance Tuning Training Course

Having studied aspects of vehicle dynamics at university, I chose the Suspension tuning course. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised with how well the course had been structured to help understand core concepts of suspension tuning and demonstrate how RACE Software simulation dashboard works! It was informative and contained a mix of theory and practical hands-on exercises using the cloud-based tool to iterate on and develop your own suspension design. The course came included with a month’s subscription to RACE Software Standard level.

Even if you are familiar with concepts such as brake steer and camber compliance, the course helped us understand exactly how to tune these metrics by running RACE Software simulations live. The first lesson and the welcoming e-mail takes you through the structure of the course and contains all the instructions to use the RACE Software simulation dashboard.

And then, each lesson is a little project unto itself to tune a chosen KPI. I feel this even tops a training course taught live due to the fact that one could learn hands on and go back to run as many simulations as you can and learn how changing certain design parameters affects different KPIs.
