Mechanic

PURPOSE: Preparation and general maintenance of team car, including backup cars.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safety:

  • Maintain “Safety First” priority on all projects
  • Ensure that work done on cars is complete and safe before it is released to track.

Procedures and car build:

  • Know Dallara and RLL procedures and make sure the car is built accordingly
  • Know and understand set up and build sheets; build the car to specifications on them.

Office/Shop/Work Area Clean-Up:

  • Daily clean-up of own area at the shop and track.
  • Weekly “In Depth” cleanup of same.

Reporting and Supervision:

  • The reporting and supervisory paths are as laid out in the most current department organization chart.
  • Support loading & unloading of vehicles, spares, support equipment and garage/tent area set up and teardown.
  • Work in conjunction with mechanics and the rest of the team, to ensure completion and security of work done on cars.
  • Understanding of chassis set up and the rule book for sanctioning body (s)
  • Fulfill any other responsibilities that are related to the job.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • As directed by the Chief Mechanic, complete work to the racecar to meet scheduled deadlines.
  • Primary responsibilities will include motor installation, gearbox installation, driveshaft-suspension maintenance, cooling system, fuel system, completion, and security of all ancillary systems on the car.
  • Follow RLL procedures to ensure car preparation and appearance meet RLL standards.
  • Follow RLL purchasing procedures in securing supplies and parts for racecar preparation.
  • RLL’s goal is to prepare all cars the same; work with team members to achieve
  • Maintain a personal supply of tools as needed for duties required.
  • Oversee any work done to car by mechanics or any other team member.

Job Knowledge:

  • Advanced race car set up and quality standards
  • Proper knowledge and use of mechanics tools and procedures including Hand tools, Set up pad tools, Magnaflux machine, Zyglo machine, Tape measure, Calipers, and Micrometers.
  • Advanced knowledge of the sanctioning bodies rule book.
  • Use of basic metal & machine tools including:
  • Hand drills, Drill presses, Grinders, Punch(s), Sanders, Lathe, Mill, Welder, Band Saw, Press.

Travel:

  • You are required to travel to all races, test(s), and other events as the schedule dictates.
