We are looking for an engineering leader to join our Test and Development team at a time when we are committing significant investment into our in-house test capabilities. Taking responsibility for the engineering of tests and experiments within our test laboratory, this is a role where you will provide a significant contribution to on-track car performance and reliability and help drive our long-term Research and Development goals.

Key Accountabilities (Duties):

Reporting to the Head of Test and Development, your duties will include:

  • Lead test activities where there are multiple departments making requests across reliability and performance areas (for example, our Seven Post or Twelve Axis activities). Responsible for the successful execution of these events within programme constraints, akin to the Chief Engineer at the track.

  • Identification of primary and secondary test objectives with the Design, Performance and Race Engineers, and ensuring the engineering delivery of these efficiently and effectively.

  • In-depth data analysis and the development of software tools in support of suspension, powertrain and safety structures testing.

  • Maintain collaborative inter-departmental relationships within the Engineering Group, as well as across stakeholders in the Operations, Finance and Trackside areas of the business.

  • Work closely with the Data Quality Group to ensure that we deliver the highest practicable quality of data – as necessary to drive Right-First-Time decision making processes.

  • Direct line management of Test Engineers – supporting their continued professional and personal development in line with the Engineering Group framework.

  • Responsible for regulatory (with respect to the FIA Technical, Sporting, and Financial Regulations) compliance of test engineering aspects for activities taking place within the Test and Development Lab.

  • Proactive engineering investigation of feedbacks raised across the Test and Development Lab, including the implementation of suitable containments and countermeasures. This includes diagnosis of issues around our test capability infrastructure, and proactively working to improve our facility

  • Creating and maintaining test profiles and ensuring their continual validation against track data and learning.

  • Support the enablement of our test facilities for commercial use.

Candidate Profile:

Essential:

  • Engineering or physics degree, or equivalent qualification(s).

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a high-performance engineering environment.

  • Experience in delivering experimental results in support of a fast-paced programme.

  • Ability to collaborate and negotiate to deliver results across different departments.

  • A proven ability to take the initiative.

  • Curious, committed to continuous learning, and ability to adapt quickly to change.

Desirable:

  • Experience in coding to automate processes, manage data and visualise information.

  • Analysis of live and logged data to draw conclusion of component and system health.

  • Trackside motorsport experience.

  • Previous line management responsibility.

  • Ability to empathetically deal with sensitive people matters.

  • Ability to creatively present data in formats that make it accessible and understandable to a wide range of stakeholders and business areas.

  • Demonstrable experience of delivering in a competition environment (such as sport) where the deadline is immovable.

Specific Advantageous Experiences:

  • Previous trackside F1 experience.

  • Use of Instron software and hardware for performing proof and fatigue experiments.

  • Use of ATLAS 10 for analysing live and logged data.

  • Coding in any of Python, MATLAB, VBA, DAX.

  • Knowledge of single seater suspension system configurations and performance trades.

  • Knowledge of single seater safety homologation requirements.

  • Hydraulic and/or pneumatic system design, maintenance and operation.

  • Understanding of Formula 1 Financial Regulations.

  • Experience with using Dassault 3DX for extracting information from CAD.

  • Dashboard development in business insight tools such as PowerBI or Tibco Spotfire.
