Timing and Scoring Technician

Destination Motorsports seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Timing and Scoring Technician for NASCAR’s Pinty’s Series in Canada.

This part time position will support the Timing and Scoring operations by setting-up, operating, and monitoring Race Control equipment; scoring equipment, cameras; and decoder network

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs routine maintenance on systems.

  • Operates the systems to provide the most accurate information to the end users. 

  • Sets-up Timing System by unloading and transporting to the scoring stand.

  • Monitors system during testing, practice sessions, qualifying and races.

  • Monitors, diagnoses and troubleshoots any issues with the timing system.

  • Ensures equipment is properly disassemble and packed after each race and transported to the next location.

  • Keeps detailed and accurate records of situations, problems, repair items, etc. and routes to the appropriate level or person to be handled as archived.  Must follow-up on submittals to ensure action is taken.

  • Communicates and transfers information via each email, Internet and/or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) on a regular basis.

  • Monitors main and backup scoring systems simultaneously to ensure all systems are in sync.

  • Repairs cables and other related equipment as needed.

  • Assists technicians with troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Diligently monitors multiple systems, maintains radio communication, and provides information as requested by the Chief Scorer or tower.

  • Uses a logical approach to solve technical issues.

Required Skills and Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of experience in information technology and telecommunications.   An A.S. degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Technology or similar discipline is desired but not required.

  • Use hand tools of the trade correctly and safely, including multi-meters, screwdrivers, wire cutters and soldering irons.

  • Experience with or ability to use more complicated electronic test equipment, test programs and specialty tools such as coaxial crimpers, phone plug crimpers, pin & de-pinning tools, etc.

  • Proficient use of computers.
