General Role Overview

This role will be responsible for managing all activities within the engineering workshop facility and supervise Technicians to support Fisker Engineering.  The role should ensure efficiency and productivity for all technical engineering work while maintaining the highest standards for quality and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with engineers to understand technical requests and work needs and prepare appropriate workshop facilities and equipment to support the business requirements.

  • Maintain safety inspections in the workshop and ensure that all safety guidelines and work rules are followed, and all safety equipment is in a working, clean, and available status at all times.

  • Set the standard for workshop behavior and standards which follows company guidelines while prioritizing safety, efficiency, and quality of work.

  • Ensure workshop facility cleanliness and that all staff follow required cleaning and equipment management rules.

  • Maintain the safety and security of all corporate vehicles, assets, and equipment located at the engineering workshop.  This includes keeping logs and records and having a security and inventory plan for all assets.

  • Ensure technical work requests are received in a timely manner and manage work among workshop Technicians to ensure high-priority jobs are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

  • Ensure Technicians work in an efficient and timely manner while adhering to all safety and quality standards.

  • Inspect completed work and ensure vehicles and systems operation is within expectations with engineering specifications, standards, and work instructions.

  • Maintain asset and calibration logs for engineering and shop equipment and ensure accurate record keeping and repairs are done to keep the facility operational.

  • Prepare budgets for equipment updates, maintenance, repairs, calibration, and inspections to minimize unexpected breakdowns and down-time.

  • Perform vehicle testing / evaluation activities and quality inspections with the appropriate engineering members.

  • Ensure the accuracy of data collection by Technicians and that test procedures and policies are followed.

  • Manage an overall workshop time and priority schedule.

  • Management of test vehicle fleet and ensuring vehicle up-time is maximized by avoiding unscheduled maintenance and the fleet is kept in a safe, clean, and operable condition.

  • Respond to urgent requests for mechanical / electrical repair on test vehicles.

  • Create equipment and facility requests to support engineering by improving capability and condition of the shop.

  • Work with all vendors to ensure building maintenance, safety / security systems, and all equipment is always kept in an operable and functional status.

  • Assist with mechanical / electrical technical work on vehicles as necessary to support engineering requests and keep project timelines.

  • Manage ordering of parts, supplies, and equipment which may be necessary to facilitate work requests.

  • Maintain the corporate Marketing / PR fleet vehicles and manage efforts with service centers to update or retrofit parts as necessary and ensure spare parts are readily available.

  • Maintain the engineering benchmark and reference vehicle fleet and manage repairs and maintenance as necessary and procurement of any parts.

  • Supervise the engineering test equipment and work with all vendors and suppliers to keep equipment safe, secure, and current on all calibrations and certifications.

  • Set up and assist with vehicle testing activities and test events on prototype and production vehicles.

  • Create training and learning plans for Technicians and ensure that all staff members have appropriate training in safety, technical, and engineering related areas.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma.  Vocational school or Trade school is preferred.

  • 5 to 10 years of experience as an Automotive Mechanical or Electrical Technician.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • ASE Master Certified Technician or equivalent.

  • Experience and knowledge using hand-tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other workshop equipment.

  • Experience as a Shop Foreman, Supervisor, or Manager of multiple Technicians or technical staff members.

  • Proven experience leading staff and maintaining clean and safe facility operations in a technical environment.

  • Experience with High-Voltage Systems / Batteries and associated safety protocols and precautions.

  • Familiarity with data collection or logging equipment and electrical tools, such as sensors and power equipment.

  • Experience with hands-on mechanical work, fabrication, welding, and machine shop.

  • Focus on safety, caution, and process improvement in all workshop related activities.

  • Creative, detail oriented, team focused, and collaborative work ethic.

  • Safe driving record.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
