Senior NVH Engineer - Airborne Acoustics

Background

No restraints. No limitations. We don’t simply push boundaries. We completely rethink them. McLaren Automotive exists to create breath-taking performance road cars.

With innovation at the core of all we do, every challenge starts with the same question. How can we do it better? This restless spirit runs right through McLaren Automotive. And the search for perfection is evident in everything we do.

Purpose of Role

This Spain (IDIADA) based role is required to support vehicle sound quality and noise refinement targets achievement for all McLaren Automotive programmes. Main focus is developing refinements at airborne transfer paths to control powertrain, road and wind noise.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Delivery of acoustic test and simulation results on time. Design and perform testing activities to evaluate vehicles and subsystems acoustic requirements and to build up simulation models. Support NVH attribute lead engineer and function group engineers to ensure that airborne noise targets can be achieved with lightweight and efficient solutions
  • Define airborne noise targets at whole vehicle, system and sub-system level
  • Conduct experimental activities to evaluate acoustic transfer paths in vehicles and acoustic performance of noise control treatments, pass-throughs and sealing systems
  • Build full vehicle models to predict airborne noise inside cabin and to design noise control solutions for new McLaren products
  • Develop tools and methods to allocate requirements from vehicle to subsystems and to improve accuracy of tests and simulations

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge from first principles of acoustics and vibrations
  • Experience with experimental methods to determine sound transmission loss, sound absorption, sound power and noise source localization
  • Experience with Boundary Element Methods (BEM) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA) for vibro-acoustic simulation
  • Ability to use SIMCENTER Testlab, ALTAIR suite and Matlab or similar software's
  • Familiarity with CAD tools
  • Good written and oral English skills
  • More than 4 years direct OEM NVH experience in Automobile industry
  • Master degree in Mechanical, Acoustical or similar Engineering

Personal Attributes

  • Willingness to learn and develop your own skills and abilities
  • Innovative and creative mindset to recommend engineering solutions
  • Good in compiling and presenting technical information verbally and in writing
