Operations Event Technician

KANSAS SPEEDWAY

Kansas Speedway, which opened in 2001, is located in the heart of the Midwest in Kansas City, Kansas. With easy access to major highways, along with the Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, restaurants, shopping and other entertainment, Kansas Speedway has easily become a destination for fans. The track hosts two NASCAR Cup Series races, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series. In addition to two race weekends, Kansas Speedway hosts over 200 event days each year.

The primary function of the Operations Event Technician is to maintain the appearance and functionality of the facilities and equipment at Kansas Speedway. This position involves event weekend and occasional extended weekday hours as needed. The Facility Manager or speedway management may assign additional duties and/or responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain facility appearance and cleanliness
  • Assist or maintain janitorial duties in a supporting role with contracted service company
  • Help maintain janitorial supplies in storage areas and closets
  • Learn to operate various types of equipment
  • Learn various maintenance and repair techniques
  • Assist with small construction and renovation projects
  • Help maintain and service equipment
  • Assist other department employees, when called upon by management

Education:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or, one to three months related experience and/or training; or, equivalent combination of education and experience

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Must know how to operate various types of equipment
  • Strong organizational skills and efficient and detail-oriented time manager
  • Must be able to speak and hear clearly
  • Experience and knowledge of motorsports industry a plus
  • Must be able to handle the stress of dealing with the occasional disgruntled/demanding guest
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud but can be very loud at times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to regularly lift and/or move objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and on occasion lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
