Model Designer

BWT Alpine F1 Team is looking for a creative and driven Model Designer to play an integral role in our aerodynamics development programme.

Based in the Model Design group within our Aerodynamics department, you will be involved in all aspects of design for aerodynamic test components on our wind tunnel model, creating optimised innovative designs to the highest standard.

You will be contributing your own creative ideas and expertise while working as part of a team of motivated and talented engineers.


The Role

This is what you will be doing day to day:
•Completing projects in all design aspects of components to support the aerodynamic development of the car.
• Communicating and proactively cooperating with aero design teams, model shop, production, wind tunnel support and aerodynamicists.
• Demonstrating ownership of projects all the way from receiving the initial surfaces through to providing support while testing in the wind tunnel.
• Contributing new ideas in design methodology including processes and procedures.
• Investigating and research new technologies to be used in the development of the wind tunnel model.


The Person


The person we are looking for will have many of these skills and capabilities:

•Excellent mechanical engineering knowledge, with the ability to solve technical problems and create innovative designs
• A degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or similar.
• Model design experience working in F1, other top-level motorsport or an equivalent high-level engineering discipline would be an advantage but is not essential.
• Knowledge of manufacturing techniques pertinent to wind tunnel testing.
• Excellent CAD skills (preferably Catia 3DX).
• Able to create engineering drawings to BS 8888 with good understanding of GD&T.
• Able to manage their work schedule effectively and efficiently to meet demanding design deadlines.
