Purpose of Role

We have a fantastic opportunity within the OpEx Manufacturing Engineering Department for a talented “Controls Engineer – Lead” to oversee a small team of engineers supporting production during shift. The role will promote and support the continued development of the Manufacturing Controls Function.

Reporting into the Manufacturing Controls Manager and working closely with the current and future vehicle Manufacturing Engineering teams, you will be responsible for the diagnostic fault analysis of both vehicle and test stands within the manufacturing and development facilities. You will work with each vehicle from concept through to manufacture, supporting from pre-production build into full production. In addition, you will also be developing the Electrical Test Stand scripts, using a variety of programming languages, whilst supporting the continued development of the platform, along with developing future solutions

Principal Accountabilities

  • Directly supporting the Controls Manager with all day-to-day activities and being their deputy as an when the need arises
  • Liaise across engineering function groups, to establish Vehicle EOL test requirements, for new and existing models, through established formats, such as SWAT Mtgs, and other mechanisms
  • Create EOL / test routine specifications for realisation.
  • Develop and deliver test routines to ensure the electrical conformance of all vehicles, through in-house creation and supplier.
  • Consider TAKT impact when introducing new EOL requirements, ensuring all affected parties are informed.
  • Rapid online fault analysis of vehicle test stand
  • Introduction of New Line side automotive test/manufacture equipment
  • Support ongoing improvement plan, with respect to RFT, and improved TAKT requirements
  • Maintain and update Off Board controller reprogramming facility, with the focus of improving capacity and reliability
  • Acting with initiative and innovation, actively thinking of fresh approaches to current or new manufacturing concerns or restrictions
  • Hands on approach to vehicle electrical concern resolution, and rectification,
  • Ability/capability to learn to program in multiple programming languages, inclusive of JAVA and C/C++ - Particularly Bosch Grade X – or other OTX Base tools
  • Development of future Test stand platforms, collaborating with suppliers and engineering functions to deliver

Ability to manage their own workload, and work independently, and proactively

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A high level of computer literacy is essential
  • Working knowledge of wireless network configuration and the ability to configure peer to peer networks
  • The candidate will have exceptional knowledge of automotive systems including:
  1. Universal Diagnostics Services (UDS)
  2. EDS
  3. Vehicle CAN/LIN/DoIP networks
  4. Vehicle controller interaction / configuration

  2. C++
  3. SQL
  4. OTX
