Interim HLCS Engineer

Description & Requirements

Background

No restraints. No limitations. We don’t simply push boundaries. We completely rethink them. McLaren Automotive exists to create breath-taking performance road cars.

With innovation at the core of all we do, every challenge starts with the same question. How can we do it better? This restless spirit runs right through McLaren Automotive. And the search for perfection is evident in everything we do.

Purpose of Role

Please note, this role is for 10 weeks.

This role is part of the Product Development department which likes to support an innovative and collaborative atmosphere therefore we are interested in a diverse background of talents and experience. Target setting, design and development of High Level Control Strategies (HLCS) for active and semi/active systems affecting vehicle dynamics, in particular related to the chassis control system development. Represent the link between the Dynamics attribute and the Controls team.

The role involves high competencies in general vehicle and ride dynamics, systems integration, and vehicle state estimation in order to define the right ride attributes at the vehicle level.

Conduct concept work in Simulation environment for the evaluation of different strategies in line with the vehicle dynamics performance indexes.

Co-design of rapid prototyping SW together with the Controls Department that satisfies the Dynamics requirements while being oriented for production.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Create a Matlab/Simulink high level controller
  • Implementation of model based control approach
  • Run functional simulation and sensitivity analysis for definition of SW requirements
  • Analyse adaptive damping effects on vehicle dynamics
  • Requirements definition at system level in order to integrate a system into the vehicle: both hardware and software
  • Requirements definition at system and vehicle level for function validation
