Job Description

The HR Generalist will provide day-to-day HR support for the business. This role will assist managers to manage daily issues related to recruitment, hiring, employee relations, employee data maintenance and reporting.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a role model for the ITW Core Values and our Leadership Expectations
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Human Resources operations, policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Under the guidance of the HR Manager, the HR Generalist must exercise independent judgement and decision making.
  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Partner with the HR Manager and managers to effectively manage the talent acquisition process, including: managing staffing vendors, implementing targeted and innovative recruiting strategies, interviewing, and maintaining applicant tracking and record keeping.
  • Organize and conduct new employee orientation: create a positive first employee experience.
  • Assist in managing the division performance review and compensation processes for non-exempt employees.
  • In partnership with the HR Manager, use sound judgment to provide effective performance management guidance to management.
  • Provide coaching and support to managers in solving employee relations issues.
  • Assist in resolving complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting the workplace, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Support the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Leave of Absence process support for the business, including running a highly effective return-to-work process.
  • Maintain position descriptions.
  • Support managers and employees with payroll-related questions and act as the payroll liaison for the business.
  • Provide administrative and office support for the business.
  • Support the HR Manager with other duties or projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Company policies.
  • Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field. Minimum of 1-2 years previous experience in an HR Generalist role.
  • Understanding of employment law.
  • Ability to use good judgment and discretion with highly confidential business and employee information.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and credibility with individuals at all levels of the organization while demonstrating a positive and approachable attitude.
  • Adapt easily to change, perform calmly under pressure, and work effectively in ambiguous environments.
  • Capable of working independently, with limited supervision managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to communicate updates with colleagues, keep team members informed, and respond clearly to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Make independent decisions, be highly inquisitive, and possess a continuous improvement mindset to suggest ways to improve policies and processes.
  • Must possess a strong drive for results and show initiative to identify issues and provide solutions.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills; good listening skills.
  • Effectively manage time and prioritize work.
  • Strong technical skills / aptitude: Proficiency in MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
