The position:

We are looking to recruit a Head of Technical Planning to drive technical planning, coordination, and schedule adherence across all relevant engineering and design functions, delivering a dynamic plan that will bring increased performance to the track.

 

Working closely with the Technical Director, you will support the development and communication of future car specifications across the entire organization to ensure the collective team is working towards clearly defined and measurable performance and schedule targets. Additionally, working closely with the Director of Car Programme Management and leading a team of technical programme managers, you will support the development and maintenance of an integrated master plan to provide all performance related estimates, design capacity/demand estimates, and perform ongoing monitoring / alteration of the technical plans.

 

As the Head of Technical Planning, you will:

  • Be in partnership with design leadership to build the full technical project list, including identification of granular milestones to track across each project and assignment of project owners.

  • Provide key input to go/no-go decisions through project impact and resource analysis.

  • Develop the project list into detailed project plans with expected resource requirements and performance gains as well as design release deadlines that align with the overall car programme.

  • Lead and support team members to work with respective Heads of Design / car programme areas to develop and execute the plan throughout the full car development lifecycle enabling all relevant functions (operations and finance) to jointly plan and coordinate full car programme delivery.

  • Manage team assignments and coordination to ensure coverage of all relevant car areas providing adequate support to the technical teams to develop, document, and track towards a single plan.

  • Train and equip team members to effectively facilitate plan development and drive accountability while also establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with stakeholders within and outside the technical function.

  • Provide the structure and leadership to support the technical leadership team in developing and communicating target specifications for the future car.

  • Identify variance from the plan and support solution identification to remain on-track.

  • Manage current car concept and fault reviews, while communicating upcoming deadlines, or plan adjustments as needed.

  • Lead regular overall programme reviews and approval meetings aligning all relevant technical stakeholders, and driving accountability to progress.

  • Coordinate consolidation and continual review of all technical plans serving as the main conduit between technical planning and the integrated product team (IPT).

  • Bring critical business and tactical decisions to senior leaders through the integrated product team (IPT) and enable informed project trade off discussions through use of accurate data and effective dashboards.

  • Partner with finance, operations, and the Director of Car Programme Management to align the organization around a single integrated master plan supporting business justification analysis as required.

 

As a Head of Technical Planning, you’ll have:

  • 8+ years of design planning, engineering program management, and/or strategy experience within motorsports (ideally F1), or another advanced engineering environment.

  • Engineering and design experience from working in a high-performance, high complexity, low volume environment.

  • Experience leading and managing cross-functional teams, including technical and operations staff in a high pressure, dynamic environment.

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Excel to advanced level, and a working knowledge of ERP systems.

  • Outstanding communication, negotiation, influencing and reporting skills at all levels.

  • Ability to remain focused and objective when faced with adversity.

  • Ability to create a positive profile for themselves and the team.

  • Strong business analysis skills, possessing a process mind-set with a capability for logically solving complex problems.

  • Resilient and professional with a belief in the concept of continuous improvement.

  • Energetic with a strong work ethic and customer focus.
