Responsibilities
- Assembly and adjustments of sub-assembled items related to the race car. Specifically, this will involve the Gearbox assembly consisting of differentials, gearbox ratio cluster, gears, and all associated gearbox parts.
- Disassembling, cleaning, inspection, and non-destructive testing of components.
- Maintaining accurate records of component and mileage changes. This is inclusive of event information required to have a post-event debrief with the group leader.
- Ensuring all race car components are safely joined, bolted, or otherwise secured.
- Communicate with crew chiefs, sub-assembly leader, race engineers, and competition director regarding the progress of work.
- Ensure that all required tools, options, and spares are loaded on the transporter for events.
- Meeting specified deadlines for race car preparation while producing a quality product.
- Safekeeping and proper use of all company property issued during employment, including uniforms, tools, toolboxes, electronic devices, credit cards, and any other productivity tools.
- Traveling with the team to races and tests to ensure the racecar is properly functioning in preparation for successful on-track performance.
- Additional sub-assembly work to include Uprights, Driveshafts, Brakes, and Wheel Guns.
- Assist with race car maintenance and upkeep during race and test events.
- Keeping the work area clean and always organized.
- Professionally represent the team and its sponsors on and off-track premises.
- Travel to race and/or test events as required.
Requirements
- If pit crew, participating in the workout program designed to maximize physical strength and endurance to remain competitive at a professional level for pit crew acceptance
- 3+ years’ experience as a mechanic or subassembly team member on IndyCar, Sports Car, or F1 series race cars. Others considered if specific types of racing are listed.
- Experience specifically with Xtrac gearbox and gearbox components.
- High school diploma or equivalent, basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
- Computer skills and competency desired.
- Intimate knowledge of race car mechanical components, electronics, and structural framework.
- Magnaflux & Zyglo non-destructive testing certification will be required if the candidate does not currently possess it.
- Must be able to concentrate on detailed work for long periods.
- Must be proficient in using precision measuring devices.
- Manual experience using one or more of the following: lathe, mill, drill press, band saw.
- Travel to race and/or test events as required.
- Ability to operate hand tools.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. from ground level.
- Ability to stand, bend, or stoop for extended periods of time.
