Purpose of Role

To work as part of the McLaren Automotive Development Team currently based at the McLaren Technology Centre. The role encompasses the definition and execution of all test instrumentation to our fleet of development vehicles and factory-based test rigs.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To work with other Engineers and technicians on the integration of instrumentation into prototype development vehicles and test rigs
  • To maintain accurate instrumentation records of the development fleet vehicles
  • Confirmation of equipment calibration, including record keeping and measurement uncertainty of our master reference equipment
  • To assist with vehicle and rig testing activities along with the analysis of data using automotive tools
  • Test data safety (backup, synchronization, sharing etc), software updates and configuration
  • Extensive travel will be required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Must be able to demonstrate broad knowledge of current and future automotive technologies and processes
  • Able to demonstrate extensive experience of acquisition methods and technologies within the test and development arena
  • Able to schedule and balance conflicting workloads and demands across multiple vehicle projects
  • Capability to develop and create tests on new technologies where no test standard currently exists
  • Able to apply detailed technical knowledge to the understanding of new technologies, development of engineering designs and resolution of engineering problems
  • Familiarity with Motorsport or Aeronautical wiring systems and connectors
  • Good understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems
  • Vehicle CAN & LIN networking and diagnostic knowledge is essential
  • Automotive ethernet experience would be an advantage
  • Should have extensive experience in motorsport/prototype/low volume/high performance vehicle manufacturing, assembly and operation.
  • Programming skills would be advantageous
  • IT literate and highly competent in the use of multiple packages and platforms.
