Circuit Engineer

Every F1 win is the result of incredible teamwork. Making it happen takes the same level of skill, dedication and teamwork from the Formula 1 team. We’re looking for a Circuit Engineer to join our Race Engineering division.

Circuit Engineering’s main areas of responsibility comprise the design, coordination, and project management to ensure that the Circuit is ready for the Formula One event. The team liaise extensively with the individual circuits and suppliers before and during the weekend, often identifying and solving potential issues before they arise.

Circuit Engineering have a big role in new circuit design liaising with track designers and architects’ years in advance of the event to ensure F1 systems will be able to be deployed efficiently and safely for the race. 

They also survey each Formula One circuit, primarily using GPS, collecting, and continually updating topographical data used as the foundation to the F1 timing systems and to create the digital circuit maps given to the media and other 3rd parties to show key timing data. This information is also used to produce the detailed drawings that FOM uses internally for event and rig planning and provide track topography for the F1 Video game.

Reporting into the Circuit Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Travel to up to 10 races per year for possibly up to 12 days at a time
  • Liaise with FOM departments regarding F1 systems equipment locations and to prepare and compile drawings of circuit equipment layout and rig plan, team garage/paddock allocations, Broadcast Centre and TV Compound layouts and other drawings as required.
  • Use AutoCAD to prepare drawings must be comfortable with the use of XREFs, attributed blocks and dynamic block creation.
  • Act as liaison between FOM, the circuit, the FIA, and outside contractors at the circuit to facilitate the smooth running of the Grand Prix from the Company’s perspective.
  • Carry out GPS, Total station and laser scanning surveys of track and other areas as required using Trimble R12i / SX10 survey equipment.
  • Carry out measured building surveys of garages including services and surveys of other buildings such as the control tower etc.
  • Liaise with the Circuit and FIA personnel to identify track safety lines and marshal light positions

Specification:

  • Civil Engineering, Construction Management or Building Studies qualification
  • Experience working in a civil engineering or construction environment
  • Proficient with AutoCAD
  • Proven project management background
  • Ability to use Total station / GPS survey equipment and associated software
  • Good communication skills dealing with FOM personnel and circuit personnel. Report writing, chair meetings and verbal discussions.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • EU driving license
