Academy Team No. 1 Mechanic

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced No. 1 Mechanic to join our new Academy Team here at Williams Racing. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the preparation, build and disassembly of previous F1 cars to Williams standards, both prior to and during events.

As a No. 1 Mechanic in our Academy Team, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Being technically knowledgeable about Formula One Cars and the rules and regulations.

  • Responsible for the performance management of  the testing of previous cars crew

  • Ensure technical specifications and deadlines are fully understood by the testing of previous cars crew and any issues regarding the provision of parts or modifications are clearly communicated to the Chief Mechanic and Engineering Coordinator.

  • Ensure that all previous car assemblies are built to a build procedure and that build checklists are completed and are visible for inspection.

  • Ensure all faults/problems encountered are accurately reported and followed up as appropriate.

  • Communicating and liaising between the team personnel and the technical specialists for the purpose of testing previous cars

  • Ensuring the previous cars crew have the tools and equipment to fulfil their role

  • Ensuring previous car assembly targets and lead times are achieved.

  • To provide coaching and mentoring to the testing of previous cars crew and suitably role modelling desired attitudes and behaviours within the team and delivering a positive and supportive working environment.

We are looking for a No. 1 Mechanic with the following skills and experience:

  • Previous motorsport experience as a Mechanic is essential and ideally gained within an F1, WEC or GP2 environment. 

  • Being technically knowledgeable about Formula One Cars and the rules and regulations

  • An enthusiastic self-starter, with an ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-sufficient, able to independently take responsibility for completing tasks and objectives.

  • Previous experience mentoring and coaching team members is beneficial.

  • Able to work flexibly with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively across teams.

  • Willingness to travel to events across the world.

*In compliance with national Secure Freight Consigner conditions, five years’ continuous employment, education and/or training must be evidenced and ay gaps exceeding 28 days accounted for.  A criminal record check will also be carried out.  This will be explained in more detail during interview.
