A fantastic opportunity has become available for talented and innovative Senior Test and Development Design Engineer in the Test and Development group.

 

Reporting to the Head of Test and Development you will create and deliver ‘Right First Time’ innovative engineering solutions making a tangible contribution to the team success.  

 

You will work collaboratively as part of a small design group and a larger Lab test group, applying a thoughtful and curious nature to a range of stimulating challenges to meet the increasing demand and requirements across a range of disciplines. Our focus is the Formula One Team, but this role will also offer exposure to Applied Science, where we leverage the best motorsport technologies for our customers across the domains of land, sea, and air.

 

Key responsibilities/Duties

Working in perfect synergy with other the engineering departments throughout the Company, you will:

- take technical ownership for the design and delivery of projects for the Test and Development Lab from formative ideas to end of use. This can include test fixtures and rigs for both composite and metallic components and assemblies required for F1 car and Applied Science component validation and sign-off.

- take technical ownership for the design and delivery of projects for the equipment used to set up and run the F1 car at the track, including the very advanced kit we use for our race pit stops.

  • Generating and managing 3D CAD models, assemblies and 2D drawings including the definition and documentation of manufacturing information, to achieve the highest levels of performance and reliability.

  • Support the definition and management of performance and reliability lab testing programs for relevant designs & projects.

  • Support design activities across the wider group, which will include engineering projects outside of motorsport as part of our Applied Science programmes.

  • Close collaboration with internal and external manufacturing departments to ensure fully integrated designs achieving optimal car performance.

  • Work with our in-house machine shop, external supply chain, inspection, and quality departments to ensure we deliver the best value between performance, reliability and cost.

Candidate Profile:

 

You have an open and curious mind, a creative approach to engineering problems and are keen to develop yourself further in a demanding role.

 

Capable of both working on your own or as part of a team, you will love the chance of applying your reflective nature to understand a problem. Your open and honest communication style means you also relish collaborating in a team setting to deliver effective cross departmental integration and results.

 

With a broad overview of your subject, you enjoy discussing technical concepts and finding solutions to problems by applying your interpretive skills, attention to detail and dependable judgment.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Mechanical Engineering or similar degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar.

  • Proven in-depth understanding of mechanical design and its application with a solid first principles understanding, couple with knowledge of materials and manufacturing techniques.

  • Understanding of composite design and the application of composite materials would be beneficial.

  • Use of hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and efficient designs is essential.

  • Experience of Catia V5/3DX solid modelling and surfacing design package would be beneficial.

  • Use of finite element analysis tools (ideally with Catia V5/3DX package) to produce optimised designs is a significant benefit.
