Replay Operator/Scoring System Technician

NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Replay Operator/Scoring System Technician based in Concord, NC.

The Replay Operator/Scoring System Technician assists with set-up and tear-down of Race Control. Operates the multi-camera replay system in Race Control. Prior to on-track activity, coordinates the needs of broadcast partners for track access. During race time, acts as the primary interface between Race Control and broadcast partners. Communicate with multiple parties within broadcast through a single access system. Identify and differentiate each parties needs clear and concisely. Anticipates the needs of NASCAR personnel and broadcast partners and prepares video for review. Influences the decisions of TV production by providing accurate information for timings and broadcast commentary. Monitors other replay systems for Race Control with custom layouts for each person. Communicates camera needs to appropriate teammates to ensure all views are provided for accurate scoring and for track safety.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Communicates all appropriate track activity to broadcasting partners and coordinates timings of commercial breaks for television.
  • Coordinates with broadcasting partners on pre-race timings and post-race needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and monitor several high-stress situations at once. Must be able to filter unnecessary information, provide accurate information, and have solutions to problems as fast as possible.
  • Adjusts to accommodate weekly requests and needs of broadcasting partners.
  • Performs routine maintenance on scoring stand laptops and equipment.
  • Installs, configures, and troubleshoots TCP/IP networks using varied modalities (fiber, copper, wireless).
  • Takes necessary steps to ensure all equipment under their control is properly configured and working prior to the start of each event.
  • Operates replay or scoring systems to ensure accurate information is provided to the end users.
  • Monitors, diagnoses and troubleshoots connectivity between NASCAR Technology Center (NTC) and Race Control, Scoring Stand, and nearby media locations (TV/Radio booths, press box, etc.).
  • Ensures all equipment is properly disassembled and packed after each race and transported to the next location.
  • Keeps detailed and accurate records of situations, problems, repair items, etc. and routes to the appropriate level or person to be handled and archived.  Must follow-up on submittals to ensure action is taken.
  • Communicates and transfers information via each email, Internet and/or File Transfer Protocol (FTP) on a regular basis. Attends meetings ahead of and during events as needed.
  • Repairs cables (Ethernet, coax) and other related equipment as needed.
  • Communicates with teammates to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of equipment distributed at an event and ensures that all equipment is collected at the conclusion of the event.
  • Diligently monitors multiple systems, maintains radio communication, and provides information as requested.
  • Interfaces with track personnel, TV/radio crews, and media members to establish connectivity and provide them with scoring data in various formats, dependent upon their requirements.
  • Uses a logical approach to solve technical issues.
  • Drive Company vehicles as needed.
  • Approximate travel required: 90%, including weekends.

Required skills / experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years of experience in information technology and telecommunications.   An A.S. degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Technology or similar discipline is desired but not required.
  • Must have formalized training and/or experience in networking and computer technology. 
  • Experience with or ability to use more complicated electronic test equipment, test programs and specialty tools such as coaxial crimpers, phone plug crimpers, pin & de-pinning tools, etc.
  • Use hand tools of the trade correctly and safely, including multi-meters, screwdrivers, wire cutters and soldering irons.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. individually. Maneuver stairs, elevators, attic spaces.
  • Read and follow SOPs, flow charts and technical drawings or schematics.
  • Experience desired, but not required, with: MyLaps electronic timing systems, SQL Server, Database Management, VM Serves, any programming languages, network administration, signal distribution, wired, RF and fiber optic cable
  • Valid driver’s license
