General Role Overview

The Senior Engineer, Vehicle Attribute, Vehicle Dynamics is a key position within the Vehicle Engineering organization and will report directly to the Senior Manager, Vehicle Attributes.

This role will be responsible for developing and setting system level and complete vehicle targets for Vehicle Dynamics.  The ideal candidate will also lead problem resolution activities and validate systems throughout the vehicle design and development process.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support teams in setting Vehicle Dynamics targets for system level and complete vehicle.

  • Lead complete vehicle and system level integration, verification, and validation of Vehicle Dynamics through design and development process

  • Perform Vehicle Dynamics subjective evaluations, tire testing, spring and bar selection, bushing selection, damper tuning, and steering calibration.

  • Develop and execute test plans, coordinate test vehicles, and manage supplier activities.

  • Develop program level timing plans that ensure all required attributes are met.

  • Utilize simulation during development process to provide direction.

  • Benchmark vehicles to aid with target setting and development (physical and web-based).

  • Collaborate with other functions to ensure a holistic driving experience.

  • Innovate and develop best practices and continuously improve Vehicle Dynamics development processes.

  • Create and present clear and concise status and technical reports.

  • Support vehicle development process inputs at each project phase.

  • Interpret test results and propose recommendations for improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.  Master of Science is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive Vehicle Dynamics development.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Experience with Vehicle Dynamics testing, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and processing.

  • Experience with suspension and steering tuning on passenger cars at an OEM.

  • Experience with the tire selection process.

  • Experience with ECU software flashing and diagnostics.

  • Experience with subjective evaluation and objective correlation.

  • Advanced driving skills; high-speed and limit handling training at an OEM or Tier 1 supplier.

  • Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good understanding of simulation software (i.e., MSC ADAMS).

  • Experience with developing EV chassis systems.

  • Experience with K & C testing.

  • Experience with event management (i.e., ride and drive events).

  • Experience with competitor vehicle benchmarking (physical and web-based).

  • Experience with interpreting customer quality data (e.g., JD Power, etc.).

  • Familiarity with the premium automotive sector, preferably with EV products and features.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel both domestically and internationally, as required.

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
