Wind Tunnel Methodology Engineer

Williams is one of the world’s leading Formula 1 teams. It exists purely to race in the top echelon of motor racing, where it has been winning grand Prix’s for more than three decades. The Williams name has been synonymous with top-level motorsport since the 1960s.

The position:

We are looking for a highly analytical engineer to work on the optimisation of our wind tunnel experiment for data quality and correlation with the race car.

Key operational duties:

  • Optimise wind tunnel experiment to maximise quality and quantity of data collected within FIA limitations (wind-on time and occupancy) using existing technology.
  • Understand and improve correlation aspects relating to the wind tunnel environment.
  • Specify requirements for new wind tunnel systems to improve data quality, correlation and optimisation of wind-on time and occupancy.
  • Specify and support wind tunnel tests to support this work.
  • Contribute to technology ideas and strategy for the model and tunnel to support long term improvements in our aerodynamic understanding from the wind tunnel.

Ideal credentials:

  • Highly analytical, able to work to tight deadlines in a high pressure environment.
  • Degree in maths or engineering
  • Some experience of a wind tunnel environment would be beneficial, ideally in motorsport
  • Experience of real time systems and data processing would also be an advantage
  • Some knowledge of programming would also beneficial

The Location:

The Williams Group are based in Grove, Oxfordshire. We offer free onsite parking and large open green spaces to unwind during breaks. We are a short 5 minutes’ from Wantage, our closest town center.
