Williams Autosport Engineer of the Future - Award Programme 2023

Williams’ core competencies are the design and development of racing cars to compete in the Formula One World Championship. As one of the world's leading Formula One teams, the company has secured 16 FIA Formula One World Championship titles since its foundation in 1977 and is now moving into an exciting era under new ownership defined by relentless innovation and living sustainable performance in every dimension.

 

Williams are excited to open applications for Autosport Engineer of the Future Award, 2023 programme. With a fresh revamp for 2023, the Award now provides the award winner with a unique opportunity to engage in a variety of tasks across various departments within F1 and Esports, working with a variety of engineers from different backgrounds and expertise.

 

Entries are open to anyone currently studying an Engineering degree at university or college in the UK. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from students with notable personal achievements in the fields of motorsport or engineering during academic studies. This may be at during your studies or through work experience whilst studying.

 

This is a unique year-long opportunity where a highly qualified, multi-skilled engineering student can develop technical and leadership skills in the exciting environment of Formula One and Esports, whilst also shaping the future of Williams. 

This scheme is designed to give you an immersive, hands-on experience working on live projects adding real benefit as a key part of our team.

 

During the year you will work on a wide scope of engineering projects across Williams and Williams Esports, during which we’ll provide you with fantastic exposure opportunities that will enable you to build your career.

 

The Selection Process

Applications will open in January, when a panel will convene to select a shortlist of suitable candidates. Once the final shortlist has been confirmed, the finalists will compete in specially designed tasks from the spheres of sim racing, junior formula racing and Formula One, while being mentored by Williams engineering personnel to support development across multiple departments throughout 2023.

 

After the summer, the leading finalists will engage in an assessment period trackside in junior formula, with the judging panel then assessing for the final winner to be announced at the Autosport Awards in December 2023. As part of the prize, the winner will attend an F1 test day with Williams the following year.

To apply for this award, candidates must submit their CV and covering letter on Workday, explaining what makes you stand out as the next Autosport Engineer of the Future Award winner.

As previously stated, you must be studying an Engineering degree. It will also be advantageous to list any credentials you have in real world or virtual motorsport.
