Job Description

The Welding Engineer Summer Intern at Miller Electric Mfg., LLC is designed to give a student the hands-on exposure to early stage research and development by assisting with projects that can bring fundamental understanding to elements of welding process and impact early stage product development or proof-of-concept demonstrators of technology advancement. The purpose of such work is to provide solutions that can address customer pain points while positioning Miller as a market leader. We are looking for a self-directed, results-oriented, and customer focused individual.

Project work will require learning about and using welding equipment, as well as data collection and measurement devices required to support a project. Depending on the project, you may be required to use any number of the following tools:

  • Robotic welding equipment
  • Dedicated automation such as a slide table or rotary positioner
  • Off-line robot programming tools
  • High speed video capture and data acquisition
  • Metallography lab equipment including a digital microscope
  • Metal working tools such as a bandsaw, drill press, and belt sander

Essential Functions: 

  • The candidate will be responsible for completing a major project that will provide professional growth
  • Support execution of active projects and process improvement initiatives
  • The candidate will learn about our equipment and understand how current product addresses customer needs

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and technical knowledge
  • Classroom experience with welding processes
  • In at least their junior year of school
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to be proactive in recognizing improvement opportunities are necessary
