Welder / Fabricator

Port City Racecars is recruiting for an experienced Chassis Fabricator. You will be responsible for the fabrication of parts utilizing knowledge of assembly, welding and metal cutting. The position requires proficiency in MIG and TIG welding and experience in chassis fabrication of race cars.

Requirements of the position include the following:

Must be able to operate the following machines: cutoff saws, shears, rolls, brakes, presses, forming machines, spinning machines and punch, that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures. Operate chassis shop and machine shop machinery and equipment.
Read and interpret job specifications to determine machine adjustment and material requirements.
Measure work piece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operations.
Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust or scale from work piece.
Weld components in flat, vertical and overhead positions.
Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts required for welding.
Evaluate fabricated components for fit and provide feedback to lower levels.
Cut metal plates and structural shapes to dimensions.
Possesses a strong knowledge of sheet metal forming and use of benders, tubing notcher, rollers and other departmental equipment.
Advanced knowledge of welding, including MIG and TIG welding.
Must demonstrate a high level of mechanical skills; experience with machine tools.

Involves the operation of small equipment and tools, including::

  • SAWS
  • DRILLS
