Vehicle Safety CAE Engineer, Passive Safety

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible to support the Crashworthiness development of advanced vehicle structure concepts for Vehicle Programs.
  • Perform Computer Aided Engineering simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness performance for high speed Frontal, Side, Rear impacts and quasi-static load cases using-LS-Dyna3d
  • Utilizes Safety CAE standard work procedures for all standard Crashworthiness load case simulations.
  • Generates sound and timely technical analysis and propose solutions to meet vehicle crashworthiness performance targets outlined in the Vehicle Technical Specifications.
  • Generates feasible vehicle design recommendations and works with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing, studio and vehicle integration team to implement design changes as required for packaging, attribute trade-offs, and vehicle performance.
  • Supports crash testing with pre-test predictions, post-test tear-downs and correlate CAE to test results.

Basic Requirements / Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
  • Experience in using one of the following, LS-Dyna3d, Beta / Ansa & Meta-post, Oasys / Primer, Altair / Hyperworks and other CAE tools.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office tools, able to generate good presentation with PowerPoint, analysis reports of Word and dexterously use Excel to perform needed calculation
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and application in automotive structures development.
  • Familiar with automotive parts vocabulary, terminology etc.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage technical projects and assignments with a high degree of autonomy and accountability for results.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated to deliver objectives. Able to understand complex problems and find practical solutions.
  • Ability to Travel

Preferred Requirements / Skills:

  • Knowledge of global passive safety regulatory requirements and NCAP requirements.
  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and Global Safety Requirements and Standards.
  • Understand the vehicle design process from concept to production.
  • Analysis of CAE and physical test data.
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual or difficult and ability to integrate complex systems.
