About the role:

As a Vehicle Dynamics - Tire Engineer, you will be responsible for utilizing tire data, tire models and wheel force transducer (WFT) data to analyze tires and provide recommendations.  You will also be responsible for tire model validation, model tuning and helping the team manufacturer with development of the tire models. You will also work with the tire manufacturer to understand tire changes and provide input on the development of the testing procedures.

What you will be doing:

  • Utilize tire data, tire models and WFT data to analyze the tire and provide race teams with recommendations on tires
  • Perform correlation of the tire models back to track data, WFT data and driver feedback
  • Assist team manufacturer on the development of tire models and tire fitting routines
  • Utilize vehicle simulation tools and Driver-in-the-Loop for correlating lab and track tire data  
  • Compose detailed reports on tire recommendations, correlation and WFT results
  • Attend WFT test sessions
  • Collaborate with vehicle simulation and team engineers on tire analysis/recommendations and tire modeling

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (four-year college or technical school) in Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in tire testing, analysis, modeling and/or development required
  • Excellent understanding of tire behavior principles
  • Excellent understanding of vehicle dynamics principles
  • Understanding of tire modeling and MF-Tyre equations (or equivalent tire models) required
  • Previous experience with utilizing vehicle simulation tools required
  • Solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, energy and structural analysis required
  • Previous experience with suspension kinematics design and vehicle simulation required
  • Advanced computer skills required.  Experience in Engineering software, such as MATLAB or similar software required
  • Racing experience preferred
  • Must be highly analytical with the ability to make recommendations supported by data trends
  • Must be thorough with a strong sense of attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Must work well under pressure with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to build internal relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Self-motivated, driven, success-oriented individual with collaborative communication style
  • The determination to work harder than anyone you know
