Uplift Senior Group Leader

Purpose of the role:

Uplift Senior Group Leader will be required to liaise with the Sales/Marketing and Aftersales teams to ensure the correct priority of vehicle uplift, de-fleet and region conversions have been put in place to support the vehicle sales plan. The role will be responsible for reporting operational and target status to senior members of the team on a regular basis.

They will be responsible for managing the workshop plan, vehicle rework activity flow and human resource levels to achieve the objectives. They will oversee the end to end process of all activities and ensure the team maintain the target plan of preparing vehicles for sale to the very high standards expected at McLaren Automotive Ltd.

The role is responsible for the management of a multi-functional team consisting of Engineering , Technician and Logistical personnel to achieve the objective, preparing vehicles for pre-owned sales into the dealer network and internal PVP sales.

Principal accountabilities:

  • Lead the team of engineering, technician and logistics experts to process and deliver to target all the uplift/de-fleet/PVP requests.  
  • Ultimately responsible for the on time delivery of vehicles to the dealer network
  • Working with the Uplift Build Engineer, ensuring the team is supplied with all pertinent information/build instructions ahead of vehicle reworks and support live build decision making when escalation is required
  • Ensuring the Material controller and Warehouse Operatives support the supply chain function with timely delivery of vehicle parts supporting the workshop rework activities. Liaising with the Uplift logistics team in accurate planning and forecasting of part procurement to better predict vehicle completion timing
  • Ownership of the Quality Assurance function for all vehicles processed by the Uplift team
  • Deliver progress and status reports while organising and driving meetings and presentations ensuring all customers and key stakeholders are correctly informed
  • Leading the multi-functional team by example, demonstrating clear leadership, excellent communication skills and work ethic in line with the standards expected of McLaren Automotive Ltd
  • Work with business processes & resolve issues within the build process when they arise, Lead the team in driving continuous improvement and support the business in process evolution
  • Support the team with workshop evolution activities, challenging and creating ways of increasing efficiency and operational effectiveness
  • Manage and monitor the team focusing on individual skill sets for each team member, optimising their capabilities and working efficiency by way of personal development and training
  • Working closely with the Uplift workshop team and the Prototype Build Manager ensuring a pro active approach and compliance is adopted towards all applicable company health and safety policies currently in place. Positively promote and support change to health and safety policy when required
  • Responsible for using the E0 workshop space appropriately , maintaining the Uplift and adjacent areas, including the MTC yard space in terms of cleanliness and presentation to the expected McLaren standards
  • Conduct annual objective setting, mid-year and end-of-year Performance Reviews for the team, supporting and contributing to comparator group reviews at group leader level across the department

Knowledge, skills & experience:

  • Extensive experience of the high-performance sport/super car segment, ideally gained on low volume, high performance vehicle programmes, motorsport considered
  • Strong understanding of quality standards required for production vehicles sold into the pre-owned market
  • Demonstrable management experience, w/ evidence to support
  • Strong IT skills and at ease with MS Office products
