Transmissions Technical Specialist

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • Be the go-to engineer for all issues relating to transmission technical advice
  • Ensure that a robust product is released in time to support the Start of Production and that it satisfies the Product Design Specification.
  • Provide expert level problem resolution skills for Test / Field Incident Reports so that the company’s recognised targets and measures are achieved for all transmissions engineering issues.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide technical direction / advice for problem resolution in support of MG warranty and after-sales for all transmissions related issues
  • To be the key contact for all transmissions issues between the UK and Shanghai transmissions engineering teams
  • As the transmissions specialist in the UK team, develop skills within the global team through coaching, attendance at transmission related seminars and dissemination of the information.
  • Produce and run the transmissions development activity plan for UK allocated projects.
  • Work within time and budget constraints but achieve the necessary quality targets.
  • Provide Senior Managers with status reports.
  • Represent Powertrain in the work-stream activity, providing the external face of transmissions.
  • Ensure that FMECAs drive the DVP (Design Verification Plan).
  • Guide and instruct the test technicians allocated to the project so that the tasks are completed in a timely manner.
  • Highlight any deviation from plan at the earliest opportunity and instigate recovery plans.
  • Ensure all transmissions test activities are appropriately documented, issued and stored centrally.
  • Instigate a reliability monitor method for the CoC (Centre of Competence).
  • The team are to maintain a presence in China as the programme dictates; therefore time spent in China is part of the job role.
  • Prioritise workload to ensure the requirements of the NPI (New Product Introduction) process are achieved; ensure that work is conducted in the most efficient manner avoiding duplication.

  • To be the UK technical authority for all transmissions design, test and related Current Engineering issues.
